Giuliani to send Mueller counteroffer on interview with Trump later Wednesday

Rudy Giuliani said Wednesday that the team of lawyers haRudy Giuliani said Wednesday that the team of lawyers handling President Trump's response to the special counsel investigation would send Robert Mueller a counter-offer for a potential interview on Wednesday.

Giuliani told CNN that the letter would represent "a good faith attempt to reach an agreement" with the special counsel's office on a possible interview between Mueller and the president, which Trump's team has warned would not be allowed to focus on questions of obstruction of justice.

Questions on Trump's remarks about former national security adviser Michael Flynn and fired FBI Director James Comey would be off-limits, as Trump's lawyers view them as "perjury traps," Giuliani told CNN. "For example: 'What did you say about Flynn?' 'Why did you fire Comey?'" They already know our answer," Giuliani said Wednesday.

It’s not a good idea at all for Trump to sit down with Mueller.

And has no right to ask the President to do that.

Rudy should tell Mueller that the interview that needs to be conducted is for Mueller to sit down with a new Special Prosecutor and explain why he is targeting the President of The United States for absolutely NO reason.

When that is over and Mueller is all settled down in his cell at Gitmo, he can contemplate his actions with himself.

Why did Trump pick Rudy? Because he is a national well known hero. Making it hard for the MSM to destroy the messenger. As a prosecutor that took down the mob, he has a good understanding of the law. Is he perfect? No. Is he assigned to float trial balloons now and again? Yes. Most of all, Trump trusts him.

It’s not a matter of naivete. Rather, President Trump believes very strongly in his own powers of persuasion. And why shouldn’t he since his entire life’s experience reinforces his confidence. But the whole Mueller thing is about setting him up for impeachment, and I don’t think the President fully appreciates the danger.

I think you paint an unflattering picture of Trump's ability to read people. It's a bit insulting, IMHO, almost like some of the arguments the left proposes. Like Trump is full of himself, etc. I prefer to think of him as just an outright winner - knows how to win, knows how to adjust when he needs to - I think he's masterful at it.

And I think you are being a bit over-sensitive on his behalf. Nothing I said insults the President or is unflattering. It simply is true. Heck, he even wrote a book about the art of negotiation, which is something only a person who believes strongly in his powers of persuasion would do.

Strong self-confidence, persuasiveness, and an outgoing nature are great qualities for anyone to have. They are a big part of why such personalities often succeed in life. However, these same qualities can be a detriment in some situations. Speaking with Mueller is fraught with danger for President Trump. It's a potential disaster waiting to happen. This is one time the President should trust his lawyers instead of his own naturally open inclination.

The insult is assuming he’s stupid enough to think he can really talk to Mueller without getting himself into trouble. You make him sound like a boastful little boy. I prefer to trust his instincts and his innate understanding of human nature.

There is no insult, only your misunderstanding of what I have said.

To: plain talk

“Not sure why Trump feels compelled to talk to Mueller. Makes no sense.”

It only makes sense when you consider the possibility that Trump sees a benifit in being the victim of a witch hunt, and actually wants to drag it out.

I’ve been saying this for a long time: Trump occasionally criticizes the investigation, calls it a “witch hunt” or says it should end, but he has never lifted a pinky finger to actually stop it, nor has he ordered anyone else to.

In fact, whenever Mueller shows signs of losing support, or congressional oversight committee members seem close to discrediting it or derailing it, Trump has seemed to breathe new life into it by restating his resolve to stay uninvolved.

Trump’s apparent willingness to submit to an interview with Mueller is a case in point. Trump could have simply said no, but instead he keeps dangling out fresh hope for an interview.

And why would he have his lawyer publicly spell out what type of of questions he would not answer (obstruction related) and publicly express concerns of a perjury trap?

There is only one explanation that I can think of: Trump wants to keep Mueller’s investigation going for some reason.

The reasons I can think of are

1) Trump is like a cat that enjoys the sport of keeping its prey alive - when it dies, the cat gets bored.
2) Trump benifits politically by being the innocent victim of a witch hunt.
3) Trump knows he’s innocent and wants the world to see his enemies engage in a futile attempt to find dirt that he knows is not there - he believes the witch hunt will exonerate him.
4) Mueller has gotten his hands dirty covering up Obama era corruption and Trump has him cornered. Mueller has been trying to end the investigation and get out clean, but Trump won’t let him.

I think the last one (4) is the true explanation - it appears as if Trump is senselessly prolonging a witch hunt that could hurt him - but what’s really happening is that Mueller wanted to make a clean break a long time ago, but Trump is blocking every exit. He’s not going to let Mueller escape.

Rudy is trolling Mueller big time, making Mueller think PDJT the ball, when in fact it has been passed off long ago , or the ball of collusion did not ever exist.

Trump has nothing to say. He is empty of any wrong doing.

But Giulliani is trolling the Mueller team, baiting them thoroughly. They want a piece of the president THAT badly.

Giuliani is a master baiter, and watching him in action is a pleasure indeed.

My point again is that you make an assumption that his personality type automatically means he is not cognizant of his own limitations. You’ve diagnosed his personality by just reading a book he wrote or by what others say about him, not unlike the crazy “psychologists” who claim he is deranged without examination.

I don’t make that assumption. Rather I believe at his age and experience in life and how he is currently handling the adversity that surrounds him, that he pretty much knows exactly what he’s doing.

To each his own, I guess...

Dershowitz’s idea: give Mueller an offer he will refuse.

If this makes it to court, Trump can say I gave Meewler an offer, but he didn’t want it.

The only thing Moooler has left is attempt to trump up some total BS ‘obstruction of justice’ nonsense where in the end will go nowhere. Thin gruel indeed. Trump has got this.

You're not very good about taking a person's word for what is in their mind and what their intentions are when making an observation. You are very good at making your own assumptions, incorrect though they might be. For example, you assume I read Trump's book, but I never have. You didn't bother to ask, you just assumed.

Writing is a flat method of communication, devoid of the visual and auditory cues humans rely on when interacting with each other. It helps to keep that in mind.

personally, i think Rudy is just stringing Mueller along, putting so many conditions on an interview that Mueller won’t agree, and then Trump can say he made a good faith effort ...

The simplest thing to do would be to grant the interview, bring in a couple of junior Marine officers as witnesses, and let Mr Mueller take all the notes he wants. Then have the President hand Mueller a copy of a presidential finding that all material related to the matter is classified Top Secret-Presidential, and note that Mr Mueller does not have a security clearance for that level of information. And he is in unauthorized possession of secret documents.

Then the Marines take him to Gitmo for interrogation. Which could take, oh, six or eight years.

Didn't assume it. I mistakenly thought you said it. I couldn’t even find it now on this thread (although I am reading and posting from my phone without my glasses on). Perhaps it was on a different thread. My apologies.

It seems we just have different perspectives but agree on the important point that Trump stays far away from Mueller.
