Facebook has been asking banks in the United States for their customers financial data, including account balances and transactions, according to a report.
The Wall Street Journal revealed that the social network has been asking major banks to share detailed financial information about their customers, including card transactions and checking account balances, as part of an effort to offer new services to users.
The banks asked by Facebook included JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Citigroup, and U.S. Bancorp, while one large U.S. bank pulled away from talks due to privacy concerns.
Facebook has talked about a feature that would show its users their checking-account balances, the people said. It has also pitched fraud alerts, reported the Wall Street Journal, which claimed, Facebook has told banks that the additional customer information could be used to offer services that might entice users to spend more time on Messenger.
Despite this, Facebook claimed in a statement that the data would not be used for advertisement targeting.
We dont use purchase data from banks or credit card companies for ads, claimed Facebook spokesman Elisabeth Diana. We also dont have special relationships, partnerships, or contracts with banks or credit card companies to use their customers purchase data for ads.

Deactivated years ago.
This is a really bad idea. Please don't do it.
The first few years of FB’s existence wasn’t bad at all. After that though it became a nightmare and just gets worse on a daily basis.
Time to shut it down and shutter it completely.
Offering a 100 dollar gift card and they will get 99 percent compliance.
Of course use a VPN, for a few $ a month, you are disguised.
Yes, if you want to know if you’ve been hacked check out your own SSN.
Obama happened to Facebook ,Google ,Apple etc etc ,LOL
I guess after their latest stock disaster, this is their answer to raise some quick cash. A great example of how leftists view the ordinary peasants.
They do and it’s the last that bank has seen of my money.
For the many who are on Facebook hours and hours a day, they would easily make it their preferred site to pay bills, etc. What Zuckerberg needs to do is buy a small bank, change its name to Facebook Financial and volunteer free checking. My guess is that within a year, the bank would be among the 100 largest in the country.
If FB has violated the privacy of non-members, FB needs to be sued into penury.
Good thing I “never” signed up for FB or Twitter.
There are other “problematic” aspects to this.
If Facebook gets mad at you because you shared “hate speech”, will they report this to your bank and shut down your financial services? The New York AG is trying to get banks and insurers to cut off the NRA because they’re evil incarnate, and liberals think it is OK to refuse service to conservatives in general retail ...
Why not try to render the politically incorrect unbanked as well? Such a financial relationship between Facebook and banks gives them a direct line to do so.
I said nope..and never will be.
They looked at me...like I was nuts. LOL!!!
I have no idea what a tweet is...unless it's coming from a feathered winged creature...in my yard.
My kids make me have a cell phone. I don't have a land line....I don't have T.V. cable or dish.
I do have a flip phone...though. And pretty much hate it....although at times..it's handy. So I keep it....!! Ha!!!
My email:
Hi,
As a 15 year customer of [Bank], I hope you're not getting involved with this.
I don't have any use for Facebook or other 'social media.' And I certainly don't want any of my information shared.
Thank you.

That doesn’t seem to be too uncommon here with all the FR Big Brains, but out in the wild that’s not the case.
You need to give up facebook.
There are a ton of FReepers on it, including the founder and this site.
I gave it up. It is bad medicine. It will turn your brain to mush, just ask my gf.
And if theres a major breach? Millions will be impacted.
Big ole list of complicit here on this site, including this site and its founder....
And there’s no shortage of authoritarian @ssholes here on this site, who just love to tell everyone else what they should or should not be doing.
Too bad I can’t use my VPN here. I get a 503 error on all but the main page.
