Trump blames deadly wildfires on California governor Jerry Brown and 'environmental laws'

Donald Trump has attacked California's "environmental laws", blaming them for the recent deadly wildfires.

The president called for state governor Jerry Brown to allow the “free flow” of water he insisted was “foolishly being diverted” to the Pacific Ocean.

Mr Trump addressed the wildfire tragedy on Twitter by weighing in on what he perceives to be the issues that have “magnified” the fires.

California’s stupidity has caused many of its problems, maybe this is one of them

Properly managed trees become houses.

Improperly managed trees destroy houses.

POTUS receives informed detailed briefings. I don’t believe he shoots from the hip. Jerry Brown is and has been a disaster and POTUS is calling him out.

For many decades, the policy was to not do any prescribed burning and many downed trees and undergrowth was the result.

Add drought conditions and you have perfect conditions for out of control wildfires.

Trump is spot on

The water issue is primarily related to the damage the restrictions did to our central valley farms. None of the wildfires would have been impacted at all, although.. when we got hit by one, we successfully made a stand in the orchards at the edge of town. If there’d been no water to irrigate them they wouldn’t have been a barrier. So you could make that argument, but primarily he’s mixing up two different issues.

The Inde’s also got things backwards on the water issue. Trump addressed the practice of diverting water from the farms to the Pacific, not the opposite.

Here is one example of what California does...

I go prospecting as a hobby in Bear River, up 80 East of Sacramento about an hour. We are about 2 miles downstream of a dam. About a mile upstream of us, there is a stream gage with a thermometer and I cant remember what temp it is set at, seems like 72, but when the river got above 72 it would open the dam and let more water out, it would take time for that cold water to hit the gauge a mile down stream, then it would shut off the flow. This was all to keep the water a certain maximum temperature for some specific endangered fish. Instead of using this water for drinking or irrigation, they ran it out into the pacific to make sure some native fish had an ideal habitat... These locals said nearly every river around had the same temperature controls on the spillways protecting something.

Going North along 99 out of Bakersfield half way to Sacramento, the farmers are begging for water (and have been for YEARS) so they can use their land that is sitting there parched and bare.

California is blaming the fires on Climate Change. Actually, fires periodically burned away the undergrowth in a natural process which renews the area for new growth and makes the area immune to the spread of future fires. It is the buildup of the undergrowth that is the problem. Efforts at fire prevention allow the buildup of undergrowth which increase the danger for bigger fires more difficult to stop.

You are absolutely correct. The “out of control” California environmental laws ARE to blame for the fire becoming out of control since these laws forbid the clearing of certain types of underbrush, removal and thinning of trees and a host of other stupid things that ensure that when a burn happens IT WILL BE BIG AND UNCONTROLLABLE. Each year as the brush grows the fires become even larger since back roads have not been maintained or cut in the forest for access to fight fires. ONLY IN CALIFORNIA!

Been common knowledge for several decades that their idiotic laws/practices have worsened the wildfires...

Kudos President Trump. Common sense and courage has been woefully absent from the White House for 28 years prior to his election. Because of that, Truth is painful for liberal America.

There was a story several years ago about how many homes in a neighborhood were burned out except for one within the group. It turned out that the owner was smart enough not to follow the tree cutting and brush removal rules disallowing removal of vegetation x feet from the house. He figured his stuff was too close and cut it back anyway. Must’ve been a freeper.

And having seen it in Washington state for a lotta years, he is absolutely right. When do we stop bailing out these idiots for not doing wildife prevention?

53% of my state, 19 million acres of forest, and we're never on the news. We have planes that search for wildfires here. We practise all of the things that science has said prevent wildfires. So over 600 of them begin each year but none of them get far.

So tired of California.
