Actually the appointment of this bizarre woman is psychologically appealing to the white male readers who avidly read the NYT and are its core customer base. These men were themselves raised by horrible women who routinely humiliated and abused them. They in their twisted self loathing leftist minds will find this woman reminiscent of the mothers they forced themselves to love and accept. Times ownership knows exactly what it is doing.
Oh, and the “party of tolerance” totally supports racism, as long as it’s the “correct” racism.
