A Wisconsin man lost his limbs after an infection he thought was a bad case of the flu.
Greg Manteufel, 48, went to the emergency room with what he thought was the flu, but tests revealed he was suffering from an infection caused by bacteria in the saliva of dogs.
While in the hospital, Manteufel's blood pressure dropped and the circulation to his limbs rapidly decreased, causing his legs to just "die," doctors said.
It's situation Manteufel's wife, Dawn Manteufel, still does not understand.

Obviously we must destroy all dogs that lick you because it’s dangerous.
/ Sarc / end chet99 spit flying.
There’s gotta be more to this story.
Is this guy diabetic? Does he have other health issues? Did he already have open sores on his legs that the dog licked...and he didn’t wash afterward? What is his hygiene like? Is his house dirty?
Just wondering.
The definition of a WASP was: Someone who kisses his children on the forehead, and his dog on the mouth.
So THAT’S why they all disappeared...
My dog had a thing for rabbit poop. Seems to have alleviated since she’s been on vitamins for several months.
A cat licked my nose a while ago.
AM I GONNA DIE?
Or is it just dog licks that are poison?

Back in the day, they used to spread manure on the field next to our property every year. The neighbors had learned to keep their dogs penned up when the spreading began.
We didn’t do that the first year there and as you might guess, our dog spent much of the afternoon rolling around in it. What a mess, lol!
I don’t know if farmers still spread manure on their fields.
The ones around here turn it into a liquid slurry and spray it on the fields. The smell is the same.
I’ve heard of dogs that could lick you to death but this is a whole new ballgame.
Cat licks are divine blessings.
This is the first time I have ever heard of this. I have always heard that dog saliva is antibacterial and beneficial, as they lick their wounds in the wild to promote healing. I really wonder about this.
Thought the same thing
Legally, he doesn’t have a leg to stand on.
Except NONE of the stories on this say it’s from a lick. The ones that describe the disease say it comes from bites. He probably was used to rough housing with the dog.
Tough deal all around
And don’t forget the parable of the beggar and the rich man, where the dogs licked the sores of the beggar that the rich man was ignoring.
Nope
The Illegals take care of that now.
Really- no $h!t
