Koch-Backed CATO Institute: ‘Time for the U.S. to Have Open Borders’
Breitbart ^ | 31 July 2018 | John Binder

Posted on 08/01/2018 4:58:53 AM PDT by Magnatron

The Cato Institute, a think tank partially founded by the billionaire, pro-mass immigration Koch brothers, is advocating for full open borders to the United States. In an op-ed for USA Today, the Cato Institute’s Director of Economic Studies, Jeffrey Miron, says the U.S. “has nothing to fear, and much to gain, from open borders,” saying that Americans should “forget” about putting a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border to stop illegal immigration.

Miron downplayed the negative impact open borders would have on American citizens, writing:

Immigrants will not flood into America, although the rate of immigration might increase. Instead, much of the immigration will be temporary. Return migration happens because most people want to be near their families, surrounded by their own language, culture or religion.

Crime will not skyrocket. Available evidence shows that immigrants are no more crime-prone than natives. And the additional immigrants likely to enter under open borders would plausibly be even less so, because they have shown respect for the law by not immigrating illegally.

You can have open borders. You can have a Welfare State. You can’t have both.

Wow, just wow. It might save some money if the CATO Institute were just converted into a facility for the delusionally insane rather than picking them up and taking them away to other padded cells.

Agree! and obama wants the key president position of the global world. Trouble with that... other globalists also want that position.

Well that's a rosy scenario.

Something like 30% of households speak a foreign language in the home. My grandparents immigrated legally in 1925.. They wanted to become Americans.. They only allowed English spoken in their home.

Koch is the old-style Republicans.

Not to me, they are new style: read the 1924 Republican Party platform to understand old style Republicans.

Jeffrey Alan "Jeff" Miron is an American economist. He served as the chairman of the Department of Economics at Boston University from 1992 to 1998, and currently teaches at Harvard University, serving as a Senior Lecturer and Director of Undergraduate Studies in Harvard's Economics Department.

This is the same BU where cortezthepeurtoriciancommunist got her degree in economics.

President of the labor force that is hungry and ripe for the MNCs to exploit for the gain of the few. With that kind of “free market” in place, even the most rock-ribbed conservative will start to think that socialism is a better way than the Koch’s neo-feudalism.

That's really the nut of it isn't it.

I’m OK with “Open Borders” if we can have “Open Season”...

“Immigrants will not flood into America, although the rate of immigration might increase. Instead, much of the immigration will be temporary. Return migration happens because most people want to be near their families, surrounded by their own language, culture or religion.”

The Kochs in recent days spoke of “holding accountable” fellow Republicans. Sounds like the Kochs need to hold their own hirelings accountable - unless this gibberish is something they advocate.

Talk with someone that has ever worked at a Koch-owned company - Georgia-Pacific for example. More than likely they will tell you this kind of confused thinking is used to manage the business.

I honestly don't know how the Kochs stay in business. They must be getting more subsidies than we know.

It might be OK if it weren’t for the welfare state.

You are an idiot if you really believe that. It is never OK to dissolve borders my ancestor fought and died for.

I understand that some of the big left-wing foundations started out conservative many decades ago. Cato is one more reason why you should not remember political organizations in your will. You don't know what the hell they're going to turn into after you're gone. This is also why I don't get life memberships in political organizations.

It is amazing to watch an organization rapidly lose its mind. They claim to be "dedicated to the principles of individual liberty, limited government, free markets and peace."

By trying to close our eyes to the disastrous flood of illegal immigrants in Europe, their goal of peace goes down the drain. By totally limiting government's ability to protect the individual we have anarchy by invaders and their supporters.

Good point. I admit I haven't been paying attention to Cato for a while, but I'm shocked they'd publish this piece.
