What’s The Coolest Gun You’re Probably Not Allowed To Own?(allowed?)
dailycaller.com ^ | 7/25/2018 | Aaron Andrews

You’re talking with a friend about gun rights and the limits of the Second Amendment.

“Absolutely, you should be able to own a gun,” she says. “But who needs an assault weapon?” She goes on to spout a line explaining how bump stocks turn regular guns into machine-guns. “Doesn’t the sale of machine guns put the public at higher risk for school shootings? Machine guns kill more people faster, right?”

She has a good point. Fully automatic guns are dangerous when they fall into the wrong hands. You start to wonder: Do we really need them?

But then you read the Second Amendment again. And you remember: The amendment protects our right to bear arms, not just so that we can protect ourselves from crazy school shooters, but so that we can protect ourselves from any threat to our freedom — up to and including our own government.

"Forbidden"? "Can't"? Well, some of them are "ownable" if you jump through the BATF hoops and have enough money. And, no, your friend does NOT have a good point. Just like it's dangerous for a fully automaic 8 speed car if it falls into the "wrong" hands. Anyway, dream on and enjoy.

From the article:
...not just so that we can protect ourselves but others as well from crazy school shooters,.

Then the question becomes, "How many others and how many shooters?"

I’ve always wanted a fully operational WWII Thompson and a BAR. I have a Garand. Note I didn’t say I need either of the others but They would be interesting to shoot. Only problem I have is the M1 comes out at the range and pretty soon I am surrounded by other shooters wanting to see and talk about it. I figure a Thompson or a BAR would be the same only worse. They would get my attention.

DITTO.

Of course I still remember the “War Surplus” German Anti-Tank Rifle that you could purchase from an Ad in the back of a Magazine (Boy’s Life?) when I was a Kid.

Including the Magazine and Ammunition it was $179.00, a little pricey for the time. Another FReeper Posted a copy of the original Ad here a while back.

Not clicking, but...these ones.

Wouldn't have many places to practice, though.

Until someone comes along with 20 inch guns.

Or a torpedo boat.

The Leopold was a big, 11 inch caliber cannon. But it's nothing compared to Mallet's Mortar, the largest caliber gun ever built (36 inch).

I believe that there are two Mallet's Mortars left. So the Royal Army has considerable backup firepower if needed.

There’s a reason they always had the biggest trooper haul ‘the pig’ M60 around. They were big, heavy and hard to control. Military removed the rock-n-roll selector and changed to 3 round burst for standard rifleman issue because full auto for a shoulder fired rifle was wildly inaccurate after a few rounds. Giving way to the term ‘spray and pray’. Would work ok for human wave attacks, but for single moving targets, not so much. Private MG ownership you could think was more for show than actual usability. IMO of course. In the 60’s the inaccuracy of full auto was evidenced by firing a full mag of tracer and getting the ‘aww crap’ effect when you realized only the first few rounds went anywhere near your aim point.
