I used to use the term “the point is to destroy what you are shooting” - but then spent some time shooting at steel targets! For my kids, did use some old fruit when they were first starting out - just to drive home how important it is to follow good safety rules.
The first time my young daughter ever fired a shotgun she followed all the rules. The instructor was very impressed with her keeping her finger off the trigger until ready to fire.
“Did your dad teach you that?”
“Yeah - with the BB gun. But he also points it out on TV every time the guy has his finger on the trigger!” (The second item I think annoyed her!)

Answer, the 7.62 x 39 cartridge is designed for the AK-47 assault rifle. ALL the other rounds, save for the small .22 LR cartridge(frequently used in handguns) are rounds designed for pistols.
ALL center fire rifle rounds pack more energy, and potentially more lethality than almost ANY pistol round designed for use in a handgun.
