There are some wacky Mooslims in northwestern China regions who are not beyond using violence at real or imagined enemies of their faith.

A few years back some Mooslims from the same region set off a backpack bomb at a temple site in downtown Bangkok, tragically killing about 15 and injuring dozens more. The Mooslim group with connections in Northwestern China and Turkey was blamed for the explosion and a couple of the dozen or so considered/blamed for the attack are in the very slow process of being prosecuted for it.
It could be the same bunch or some similar wingnuts.

Yes. If “huge blast” has anything less than the potential to flatten a large building... it is certainly not huge nor is it much of a blast when used in the context of explosives.

“Small explosion outside US embassy in Beijing.” Would be a more than enticing headline and still be accurate.
Actaully, it’s even more funny than that. The headline says “huge blast” but the article itself has the police saying someone detonated a “small device.” Holy cow. Can a headline get any more clickbaity? Is clickbaity an ok word also today since apparently anything goes with headlines?
While I agree it fits that pattern, it's highly unlikely. China does NOT welcome them. Not in the slightest.

China is losing a trade war with the USA.
Secondly President Trump has doubled down on his tough trade stand with China. Its not merely political posturing posing as the Chinese first thought, like presidents of the last forty years or so.
Thirdly Russia will be cooperating with the USA in this trade war with China for similar economic reasons in order to gain most favored nation trade status with the USA and minimize US competition for the supply of energy to Europe, along with the goal to minimize US troop build up in Europe as a result of the Russian annexation of Crimea.Thus the newly arranged state visit by Putin to the White House ( note how the left and Never Trumpers are ape shit over this, they know the big picture and are under pressure from US Corporations which have been assisting the sell out of America to China.)
Fourthly, the USA is now negotiating directly with North Korea to end its status as a Red China puppet government as China fights back by circumventing its agreement with the USA to temporarily cease energy supply to North Korea by making fuel transfers at sea rather than delivering to North Korea ports. China means to keep North Korea enslaved and nuclearized, but it is slowly losing that battle as well to the carrot / stick approach by PDJT.Rocket Man wants to be very rich and free of China giving him orders.
China is losing all around, and it now will begin using violence, surgically at first, against the USA near the Spratly Islands, and at US Embassies around the world.Next watch for Chinese government staged demonstrations and riots at the corporate headquarters of US companies in China.
The Red Chinese simply want to continue draining America of capital and jobs to weaken the West so that it can rule the world as it believes it has the right to do as an allegedly superior civilization. If I were a US corporation heavily invested in China, I would be getting ready to leave very soon. Go to Australia instead and compete with the Chinese there.

Every time China devalues its currency, the standard of living in China goes lower.This is why PDJT will win.
Interesting. In the past, at least, Chinese sappers were trained precede infantry to throw satchel charges (about the size of a small ruck) on a wire obstacle on an Army perimeter. Either that, or they did so while intending to go further. ...usually a couple of them. Plans did tend to fall apart in commie assaults. Fancy tactics in plans turned into chaotic human waves at assault time.
We’ll need to be manufacturing many different kinds of products before decreasing the trade imbalance. The only thing that I can think of for doing now, offhand, is to be more frugal and careful with the things we use and even forego a few entertainment items.

And yes, the Yellow River flows out to the sea (and the world). Some of that in Chinese entertainment going way back. We Americans still can’t wrap our heads around empire by any name and what it means to people some of the other cultures (e.g., the belief that one nation or another will do it regardless).

Article said that he self-identified as “Jiang” from Inner Mongolia. Most likely Han? If so, that really narrows things down (not, haha). Hui are only a very small minority there, so Muslim? Possibly, but you know that they’re in the doghouse (American figure of speech) and tend to be closely observed when deviating from routines.
There was smoke reported outside the embassy, and police referred to it as a firecracker. Looks like a simple black powder bomb, maybe.
I can’t speculate on it at all. It appears to be a desperate act of a crazy man. He was not a pro, unless we’re getting incorrect info from the local authorities there.
I don’t know, there is very little tolerance for Muslims in China, they are not looked upon very favorably by many people there, at the from my experience talking with folks from there.
Probably homegrown crazies.
My first thought too. This would be a big loss of face for the government and security apparatus. And “Face” is a concept one learns to take very seriously doing business with the Chinese.

I've been there. Not a chance. The US embassy there is under the very watchful eye of both Chinese spies and special public security units.
