Mueller to call witnesses from IRS, FBI for Manafort trial: report (Named witnesses)

Special counsel Robert Mueller's prosecutors reportedly plan to call witnesses from the FBI, IRS and Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network during former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort's trial.

Politico reported that one of the lead investigators made the announcement at a pretrial hearing on Tuesday as the judge presiding over the case laid out broad parameters to potential jurors, including a timeline of Manafort's alleged crimes.

On Monday, U.S. District Court Judge T.S. Ellis III ordered Mueller to turn over its full witness list of about 30 people, Politico noted. The news site reports that Ellis said on Tuesday that the list would be made public by the end of the week.

Uzo Asonye, a Mueller prosecutor, reportedly argued on Tuesday that the witness list is not normally disclosed before a trial.

“Yes, I know, but this isn’t a typical case,” Ellis responded.

Ellis on Monday delayed Manafort's trial in Virginia until July 31. It will be the first in Mueller's broad probe into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

President Trump's former campaign chairman is accused of money laundering and failing to register as a foreign agent before he joined Trump's campaign.

He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

On Monday, Ellis revealed the identities of the five witnesses who were granted immunity to testify against Manafort. The witnesses, each connected to financial institutions, are James Brennan, Donna Duggan, Conor O'Brien, Cindy Laporta and Dennis Raico.

These institutions are hopelessly corrupt and should be disbanded. No one belonging to these institutions is to be trusted.

Why is the prosecution worried about disclosure? It’s not as if the Clintons are on trial and the witnesses were at risk of Arkancide...

Any idea why these witnesses need immunity?

Have they violated banking laws?

So much for the stupid reports last week that two of these witnesses were Tony and John Podesta.

Tucker Carlson dropped more than a few notches with his reporting on that one. He can redeem himself by naming his two sources on the air and exposing them as liars.

I keep reading one of the names as Conan O'Brien which makes sense given this circus.

Because if they're smart they'll get on the stand and plead the Fifth Amendment even if they did nothing wrong.

They probably don't need immunity at all ... but giving them immunity is the only way to get them to testify.

I'm surprised there aren't more Freepers open to the possibility that this is exactly what Manafort was.

Look at the guy's career. He's exactly the kind of person candidate Donald Trump must have had in mind when he promised to "drain the Swamp!"

Because half of the FBI convictions are based on "false" testimony or entrapment

"So much for the stupid reports last week that two of these witnesses were Tony and John Podesta."

Article says there's about 30 witnesses. Those named are only a handful so far. Time will tell.
