NY Times: Trump was recorded talking of paying Playboy model

NEW YORK (AP) — President Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer secretly recorded Trump discussing payments to a former Playboy model who said she had an affair with him.

The president’s current personal lawyer confirmed the conversation and said it showed Trump did nothing wrong, The New York Times reported Friday. ABC News and The Washington Post confirmed the report as well.

Citing lawyers and others familiar with the recording, The Times said attorney Michael Cohen made the recording two months before Trump’s 2016 election. The newspaper said the FBI seized the recording during an April raid on Cohen’s office amid an investigation into his business dealings.

People familiar with the investigation have told The Associated Press that the raid sought, among other things, any information on payments made in 2016 to former Playboy model Karen McDougal, who says she had an affair with Trump in 2006. He denies it.

The Wall Street Journal revealed, days before the election, that the National Enquirer — run by Trump supporter David Pecker — had paid $150,000 to silence McDougal. At the time, Trump campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks said, “We have no knowledge of any of this.”

Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani told the Times the Republican president did discuss the payments to McDougal with Cohen on the less than two-minute-long recording, but that the payment was never made.

Giuliani says Trump told Cohen that if he did make a payment, to do it by check so it could be documented.

“Nothing in that conversation suggests that he had any knowledge of it in advance,” Giuliani told the newspaper. “In the big scheme of things, it’s powerful exculpatory evidence.”

FBI is leaking news about Trump? That’s the real story, not that he’s offering money to keep quiet about embarrassing info.

Those communications are subject to attorney-client privilege.

The FBI has set fire to centuries of legal principles. SHUT the FBI DOWN.

These IDIOTS can't get TRUMP on anything + can't get TRUMP supporters to turn on him so they think an affair will get him but it won't!

CNN went to talk to women & evangelicals a couple months ago & no one cared about the affair with Stormy!

Whatever happened to attorney - client privilege?
That doesn’t apply to an attorney for an evil Republican.

These Pharisees have no concept of how they look. If that’s the worst they can allege, all they are saying is that Trump may have yielded to temptation more than some hypothetical person who was never even subject to the same temptation.

Same thing with slaveholders. They did bad things that a modern liberal could not do, let alone get away with doing. So the modern liberal preens on her virtue - but take away her electricity and running water, which replace a lot of what slaves did in the household - and see how put-upon she feels then. You can’t even get a Certificate of Occupancy on a house that doesn’t have electricity and running water and indoor toilets.

Nobody seriously suggests that we should not use electricity - if you don’t count Al Gore with his multiple energy-guzzling houses - so our liberal friend does not admit to any concept of evil for living about as easy as a pre-bellum southern slaveholder did.

Before Eighteenth Century Christians turned against the institution of slavery, slavery existed and was taken for granted (as long as you weren’t the slave) in all cultures and throughout history. So it just happened that antebellum southern Christians were uniquely situated to be the last Christians to get the word (in a way that they could hear it) that slavery wasn’t acceptable to Christians.

And in a very real sense, the American Revolution freed up British Christians to more easily oppose slavery - which they did vigorously - without having to face up to the existence of that institution within what had been their realm.

The “lady”?

Ahem, you meant the “dude”, right?

Frankly, Bill Clinton’s sexual proclivities never bothered me all that much, there were many other things that did that I didn’t like. I joked about them more than anything.

The problem is: What if, instead of sending her recorded Lewinsky conversations to Ken Starr, Linda Tripp had instead secretly offered them for sale, say, to the Chinese government? Or to the Russians? Or even to agents of Saddam?

What kind of blackmail leverage would those tapes have provided to a foreign government in dealing with America on sensitive trade, security or military issues? One of the few things Clinton ever said that I believe is that he would have done anything to keep the Lewinsky affair secret. Given his demonstrated track record of selling out American interests for personal or political gain (and there are more examples that I could have cited here), how far would he have gone in compromising America's real interests in order to protect his own neck when threatened with blackmail?

Pretty far, I believe. Equally distressing is the prospect Clinton might, in fact, have succumbed to foreign black mail on other occasions in order to hide different sexual episodes that ultimately did not become public.

There is no way to know, of course, but I prefer presidents for whom such a scenario is not a plausible possibility.

Released at precisely the time Lisa Page is singing like a canary.

Oh, quelle coincidence!

Exactly like the Mueller drop of the 12 Russians indictment JUST BEFORE Trump went to Helsinki.

The Swamp is sabotaging the governance of the country.

They'd better hope the shoe doesn't ever go on the other foot.

There might be long-distance sabotaging, then...

Who cares who he had sex with? Who care who has sex at all? This is an obvious ploy to shed women voters who at one time as a voting block defended Bill Clinton who was a pervert and guilty of countless sex crimes.

Sex doesn't matter.
Clinton with a skank under the desk taught us that.
Kennedy with Monroe and other sluts in the White House taught us that.
If who is doing what to who starts to matter in politics damn near ALL in Congress and the Senate will be lawyering up.
A helluva lot of powerful men in politics and business are pigs. Wrong but not shocking. The Kennedy's took it from sex to murder and they are worshipped icons. President's screwing other women is the problem of their wives; it's President's screwing this country that I care about.

If true (and much of what we read about President Trump is false), it was inappropriate on Trump’s part. Inappropriate, but not in any significant manner criminal. It was also a serious crime by whomever leaked materials that should have been protected under attorney-client privilege. I hope the leaker will get fired - plus a decade in prison.
