Stephen F. Cohen on Helsinki Summit: Media Held A "Kangaroo Court" And Found Trump Guilty
Real Clear Politics ^ | July 16, 2018 | Tim Hains

NYU Russia expert Stephen F. Cohen and FNC's Tucker Carlson discuss the president's meeting Monday with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and calls of "treason" from Democrats and Intel officials.

TUCKER CARLSON, FNC: Assess, if you would, the reaction today to this press conference and to the summit between Putin and Trump/

STEPHEN F. COHEN: The reaction by most of the media, by the Democrats, by the anti-Trump people is like mob violence. I've never seen anything like it in my life. This is the president of the United States, doing what every other president before him, since FDR in 1943 with Stalin, meeting with the head of the Kremlin. And something that every American president since Eisenhower, a Republican by the way, has met with the leader of the Kremlin for one existential purpose: To avoid war between the nuclear superpowers.

Today, in my considered and scholarly long time judgment, relations between the U.S. and Russia are more dangerous than they have ever been. Let me repeat: Every been, including the Cuban missile crisis.

I want my president to do --I didn't vote for this president-- but I want my president to do what every other president has done. Sit with the head of the other nuclear superpower and walk back the conflicts that could lead to war, whether they be in Syria, Ukraine, the Baltic nations, these accusations of cyber attacks.

Every president has been encouraged to do that an applauded by both parties. Not Trump.

Agree that Cohen, who took the historical long view and eye on the real threats brought a voice of sanity to the discussion.

Also, even though we hear the MSM outcry there are posts out there getting it in the proper perspective.

This one from comments on the Hill

Obama flew plane-loads of American cash to the world’s biggest sponsor of terrorism Iran. Remember when they recorded Obama telling Medvedev that he’ll “have more flexibility after the election. Tell Vladimir.” Who’s the traitor? Hillary and Bill pilfered $1 billion in aid to Haiti to pad their “foundation.” Hillary moved national secrets knowingly through an unsecured server in her linen closet. Who’s the traitor? President Trump is attempting to have a peaceful, respectful relationship with a country with 6800 nuclear weapons. Leveling accusations against Vladimir Putin at a press conference would be a very stupid move for everyone’s safety. Deal with the cyber security issues at a more appropriate, productive time. I HAVE NO DOUBTS WHERE TRUMP’S LOYALTY IS: AMERICA!

The MSM, including many of the fox shows knows they can attract an audience by keeping up the farce of Trump subservient to Putin.

Even their Messiah of Interviewers Chrissy W couldn’t get Putin to knell down to him the way he does on his Sunday shows....

Sure be careful of Russia, but always follow the advice. Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer...

Donald.... we have your back, and we know for the first time in a long time someone has ours....

Hard to hear above the din of all the teeth gnashing going on. Since the notes from the private meeting haven’t been leaked yet, no one knows what Trump is up to. We know he’s a cagey dude and pretty dang slick. The left are apoplectic. Maybe they won’t come up for air.

No other President was undermined and sabotaged by his “own” side just before a meeting with a Russian/Soviet leader. In retrospect, Trump should have cancelled the meeting. It was a total setup to screw him by the Deep State and the media.

Yes, relations with Russia are at a dangerous point. But worse than that, we have a Constitutional Crisis in our own government bigger than any since 1861. The government is running a coup against a Constitutionally elected President.

” Vad I will be more flexible after the election”, perhaps that is what the media wanted to hear. Worked for Ohola.

Hearing and reading about my President, yes my President, kicked about by the jackal press and the panty waisted legislatures really rankled me. It definitely separated the grain from the staff. Really upsetting is there were fewer grains then there should have been.

The media is the enemy of the republic no doubt but I am thinking an equal enemy is the two party system. Washington, I think it was, who mentioned the dangers of parties to the republic. The old guy was wiser than many think he was.

Putin delivered the goods on Hillary, deep state, and the DNC. Personally. That is why the freak out. A lot of people around D.C. are in some very perilous times.

the best response to the Trump/Putin meeting by far. this man went from media darling to persona non grata in the FakeNewsMSM for talking sense about Trump and Russia.

favourite line by Cohen:

CARLSON: I think it is no defense of Putin to ask that question. I’ll repeat it for the viewers in case they missed it: Why do so many people in charge now dislike the current leader of Russia more than they disliked the communists?

COHEN: There is an answer but we’d need a lot more time and a psychiatrist.

“The government is running a coup against a Constitutionally elected President.”

and at the same time whole states and some cities are in open rebellion. Not even Lincoln faced such a two headed monster, coup and rebellion. I wonder which, given a choice between the two, Lincoln would have tackled first. For me, I’d have the scaffold at the Navy Yard running 24/7.

Trump also needs to counter this Russian election meddling meme by reminding the public of the obvious point.

It’s illegals, dead people, and corrupt voting machines that account for the overwhelming percentage of the voter and election fraud. If the Russians are guilty, they could only account for a tiny and minuscule percentage of the problem.

And the media, left and never Trumpers want to destabilize and degrade relations with Russia or even go to war.

‘we have a Constitutional Crisis in our own government bigger than any since 1861’

it’ll take some doing to match 1861...we may have to reanimate President Lincoln’s corpse and have him skulk about slitting the throats of sleeping infants, as I learned here on FR, in order to foment bloodshed, to get things started, so to speak...

Answer: Trump.......No other reason. They didn’t mind Obama sucking up to Putin.
