Once Again, President Trump Is Magnificently Right—This Time About Russia
PJ Media ^ | 7/16/2018 | David P. Goldman

President Trump offended the entire political spectrum with a tweet this morning blaming the U.S. for poor relations with Russia. “Our relationship with Russia has NEVER been worse thanks to many years of U.S. foolishness and stupidity,” the president said, and he is entirely correct. By this I do not mean to say that Russia is a beneficent actor in world affairs or that President Putin is an admirable world leader. Nonetheless, the president displayed both perspicacity and political courage when he pointed the finger at the United States for mismanaging the relationship with Russia.

Full disclosure: I was a card-carrying member of the neoconservative cabal that planned to bring Western-style democracy and free markets to Russia after the fall of Communism. As chief economist for the supply-side consulting firm Polyconomics, I got an appointment as an adviser to Boris Yeltsin’s finance ministry and made several trips to Moscow. Of course, the finance ministry really was a family office for Yeltsin’s oligarch friends, who were too busy stealing Russia’s economy to listen to advice. The experience cured me of the neoconservative delusion that democracy and free markets are the natural order of things.

Unfortunately, the delusion that the United States would remake Russia in its own image persisted through the Bush and Obama administrations. I have no reason to doubt the allegations that a dozen Russian intelligence officers meddled in the U.S. elections of 2016, but this was equivalent of a fraternity prank compared to America’s longstanding efforts to intervene in Russian politics.

The United States supported the 2014 Maidan uprising in Ukraine and the overthrow of the Yanukovych government in the hope of repeating the exercise in Moscow sometime later.

Thought about this over and over the last few days.

The “Russian Election Interference on behalf of Trump” has always had a funny smell to me. It just didn't make sense.

I'll grant there were cyber attacks (thanks to Hillary's greed/stupidity) but a President Hillary was clearly in Putin's self interest. So what gives?

Then this morning I was reading about the under reported similar attacks on the GOP. Attacks thwarted by professionals following the rules. That's when it hit me. There is a name that is never mentioned in that Russian Cyber Attack case.

That name is Bernie Sanders.

Clearly Sanders the socialist and lover of all things Russian would have been much preferred by the Russians over Trump or Hillary. Notice how the Sanders campaign never has complained about cyber security? Never had internal Emails leaked?

If the Russians did indeed try to tilt an election, the tilt in favor of Sanders makes all the sense in the world.

Putin offered to allow Mueller to come to Russia to question the 12 indicted Russians.

In this game of political chess, Trump will not make the moves they’re trying to force him to make.

Bernie Sanders honeymooned in the former Soviet Union. Now he is the pseudo intellectual leader of the Democrat party.

We indeed dodged a bullet in Egypt. That was going to be Obama’s crowning achievement: The Islamic State of Egypt, with his muslim brotherhood firmly in control. Fortunately the Egyptian military had the strength to lock them all up. Obama’s failure rate was 100% after that point.

I was thinking he’d probably be happier with his buddies at DU.

It’s rare when I see a screen name I don’t recognize at all.

Yep, you’ll find that in rare circumstances.

A look at his infrequent posting history shows he ain’t been around much since about 2012. And that’s just a quick look.

President Trump did what any GOOD US President would. He established (or trying to) a cordial business relationship with an old adversary who doesn’t need to be considered a mortal enemy any longer. The cold war is long over.

It’s much easier and better for everyone when dealing with Putin/Russia from a business standpoint than as an enemy of America. Putin of course can’t be trusted but a dangerous animal (or person) is much easier to work with if they don’t feel threatened.

In the UK his intention was to find out if our business interests were intact and they appear to be. The UK is a sovereign set of countries who must rule themselves. It isn’t our place to interfere although we can be critical of what is going on there because it can affect us in many ways.

Also; we aren’t privy to all the information President Trump is so we must give him some benefit of the doubt. I do anyway.

I have respected the man in the office until today. Trump is a traitor to this beautiful country as of today. Nuff said. Keep it up all you Freeper sheep. Westnews out.

No. Not enough said. A post like that needs a lot more elaboration. Please provide some details of his 'treason'. Otherwise we have no idea what you're talking about.

Yes. And what a coincidence he didn’t seem to have a bad thing to say about Obama in 8 years nor Hillary that I’ve seen yet. I’ll take another look.

What a surprise. /s
