It's a basic truism that a trip to the DMV is usually an exercise in punishing frustration not unlike the outermost circles of hell in Dante's Inferno, a "house of suffering" where "no thing gleams" and the air is filled with sighs of despair.

It’s filling out those Motor Voter forms.
Had to visit the TSA office to get my known traveler number so I get in the pre-check lines at the airport. Had to wait and then pay $85. The international known traveler number costs another $150.
In Missouri, many of the license offices (Department of Revenue) are outsourced to non-profit organizations (of the governor’s choice) who make their money on each transaction. Except for the last days of the month, there is very little wait time. Much better than my California experience many years ago, but then I live in a fairly small town.
Ah, love my breakfast omlet and hash browns w/green chili sauce at the Durango Diner. (Carvers Raspberry ale is also great).
Kinda like an appointment with the doctor's office where your appointment is at 9:00 am and your lucky to see the doctor around 11:00?
Nobody gives two shits about service anymore. Pathetic. Just pathetic.
Here in Connecticut, you go to a reception desk when you enter. They see you immediately, ask what you are here for, and check to make sure you have all the correct documents before you take a number and start waiting. This does cut down on the frustration.
Critics should remember that there are many people trying to fool them with phony documents. If they didn’t check everything, stolen cars would get titled and registered, and guys with suspended or revoked licenses would get a new one.
Nice! Good to hear. Come back or move here. We need all the good people we can get.
Yup! Last time I went to the DMV in Northfield, Ohio/ 10 minutes, including new pic.
Pro Tip:
A AAA membership means you can resolve 80% of DMV stuff at your local AAA office, usually with less than 60 seconds of waiting.
That ALONE is worth the membership fee, IMO.
There are three things that absolutely drive liberals nuts, because if they could ban them, they would have complete control of our lives:
1) The gun. The second amendment enforces all others.
2) The privately held corporation. The cornerstone of capitalism.
3) The automobile. Too much freedom for serfs who should only be traveling on public transportation when the government says they can.
With that in mind, is it any wonder liberal government DMVs are as unbearable as possible? The only reason they are open at all is so they can register illegal aliens to vote.
Here are the languages used in California’s driver exam. While it’s nice to see my ancestral language on the list (Hungarian), anything other than English is simply insane.
How would a driver who knows only, say, Hungarian be able to read street signs, or obey orders given by a traffic officer?
Amharic, Arabic, Armenian, Cambodian/Khmer, Chinese/Cantonese, Croatian, English, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hmong, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Laotian, Persian/Farsi, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Romanian, Russian, Samoan, Spanish, Tagalog/Filipino, Thai, Tongan, Turkish, and Vietnamese.
“How would a driver who knows only, say, Hungarian be able to read street signs, or obey orders given by a traffic officer?”
Exactly. Years ago when my Canadian GF went for her written test, she playfully said “french” with a nice Quebec accent and the idiot DMV clerk was scrambling for French written test.
She then said “im just kidding”. Clerk was not happy LOL
And I’ll bet you didn’t have to avoid stepping in human CRAP on you’re way in or out!
When I go to the local DMV, most of the Employees are wearing SEIU T Shirts.
About a year ago, I had to renew my drivers license at a DMV just outside Houston, TX. All it involved was taking the eye test and turning in a form which I had already downloaded and filled out. The wait time was almost 3 hours exactly.
I go to the next county where the wait is much shorter and it is a scenic drive though the mountains.
I need to correct a name on the pink slip of one of our cars. The bank screwed it up. Went on line to make the appointment. Nothing available for a full month. Ridiculous. I have to renew my license in September and go Real ID. Guess I should make the appointment now. (shaking my head)
I should have filed a complaint at the NJ DMV. Took my elderly Mom to renew a handicap tag. Counter clerk was passive aggressive (e.g., barely returning documents so Mom had to reach way across to retrieve them), rude, painfully slow, etc.
No way to treat an elderly woman.
Luckily I was there to take over the process. Luckily my Mom was there to keep from making a scene :)
When I was in a CA DMV I noticed that every single noncitizen foreigner had their grandson/granddaughter there to tell them the answers.
No, not “translating”. Giving them the answers.
And it was allowed.
