WASHINGTON (ABC7) — The Maryland Department of Health has put out a warning not to eat fresh crab meat imported from Venezuela due to a "potential risk of infection."

Venezuelan crabs. Sounds like something a Hollywood lefty would be happy to have.
Wait, let me get this correct. The pure socialist commie “republic” of Venezuela cannot feed its own population, yet it is exporting crab meat to the US? Correct?
Amazing how a state known for its crab industry imports crab from Venezuela. Many years ago I was in Baltimore for a few days where I saw people on the piers crab fishing and had crab cakes in restaurants at least 3 times.

How cynical is it of me that the first thing I thought of was that cheap foreign crab meat isn’t good for the Maryland crab industry? I mean I guess I would prefer not to eat crappy crab meat when I rarely eat it, but no way do I think that something like that couldn’t fly in Maryland.

The latest grade of the Chesapeake Bay (from the WaPo):
“The bay’s overall grade is a C, because some areas, such as the Patuxent, Patapsco and York rivers, are bouncing back from near-failure. The category of water clarity faltered, falling to an F from last year’s D. But the James River area and the lower stem of the bay closer to the Atlantic both earned grades of at least B-, their highest ever, and shored up the overall score.”

This raises several disturbing questions for me. How is it that we have an embargo on Venerzuela yet they are still able to get their crabs to the U.S. to market?
How can you tell the difference between Venezuelan crabs and, say Colombian crabs? Do the crabs need to show their papers to enter the country or do they just crabwalk across the border?
Is Baltimore a Crab Sanctuary City?
My favorite restaurant sells crab balls and I’ve always wanted to know how do they castrate those little crabs and is that, like, one of the worst jobs in the world?

Although somewhat off topic, why are the news media and the left not talking about the suffering of children in economically disastrous socialist Venezuela? Don’t they count? People are starving there, and people are killing pets to eat. Where are the compassionate left?
Now there is a switcheroo play on words.
Maryland, a “blue” state and home of the famous Chesapeake Blue Crab (I have caught many), is warning people not to eat crabs from a “Red” country, Venezuela.
So “Red State Republicans” can only eat Maryland “Blue Crabs”. Now that is either the best case of “peaceful coexistence” and “détente” or the axiom that “Food is uber alles” is true.
You want fries and coleslaw with that? Don’t forget Old Bay Seasoning.
Do they still have “”Natty Bo” (National Bohemian beer, the beer of crab eaters in Maryland for decades)?
Old timers want to know. (I drink only A&W Root Beer. The last beer I had was “Bayon Beer” in So. Vietnam and it tasted like water buffalo piss. It was warm, too. We should have just dropped cases of it on the VC. Would have wiped them out in a day).
So if its not fresh it is Okay to eat?
It’s hard to believe they can export any food when so many are starving there.
