I’d tell him that it looks like he’s reading Donald and his MAGA movement through the lens of his own over-the-top “leftism” that sees every single sad case as an unmitigated victim without any room to aspire to improvement.
There are widows and orphans, yes. But when EVERYBODY claims to be a widow and orphan, they are saying that they were married to the state or had been a child of it, and then the relationship failed!
