WASHINGTON — The Justice Department asked a federal judge Friday to extend the court mandated deadlines for reuniting nearly 3,000 migrant children who were separated from their parents while crossing the U.S.-Mexico border.
Attorneys for the U.S. government claimed the court mandate for returning all children under age 5 to their parents by July 10 and all other children by July 26 does not account for the time required to verify and vet each parent.
"The government does not wish to unnecessarily delay reunification," lawyers for the Justice Department said in their response to the court. "At the same time, however, the government has a strong interest in ensuring that any release of a child from government custody occurs in a manner that ensures the safety of the child."

Just put the kids back with the people they came with and keep them in prison cells.
Of course, some kids will be with kidnappers and child molesters, but Liberals think that is healthy, so it’s okay.

What’s this “ask” shit? Is this the same Justice Dept that routinely ignores demands from Congressional committees whose job it is to oversee them?
Media constantly says “parents” have been separated from their kids, but this automatic assumption needs questioning.
We really should know how many of these alleged “parents” are in fact non-relatives who simply used the kids to gain entry into US - whether they are gang members, human traffickers, strangers wanting entry for various purposes, etc.
Then ask - why should we WANT to return these kids to these strangers? Where are their parents? What illegal organization is facilitating this transnational child abuse? etc.
Show each older kid a cell phone picture.

Is this woman your mommy?
¿Es esto hombre su padre?
Is this man your daddy?
For the younger kids, show a bunch of pictures with a bunch of kids first:
¿Madre, es esta niña su niña?

I suspect the percentage is small.
But if the parent looks likes like a gangster, ask for court approval of the child’s return.
Another way is to put a bunch of parents and what is thought to be their kids in the same room.
Those that don’t match readily should have their DNA checked.
The DoJ should have tracked each person held.
They should have been given ID numbers and ID bracelets.

Trump is making a huge mistake submitting to the courts like this. He’s ceding constitutional authority to them that rightfully belongs to the Executive branch.
Perhaps he’d like to tell them to shove it, but feels his political hand is currently too weak to do so.
I hope that’s his reasoning, because this is a troubling pattern with him.
