South Korea officially dropped its maximum workweek to 52 hours on Sunday (July 1), in an effort to improve the quality of life among its citizens by tackling the country's notoriously long work hours.
The new law, which was a campaign promise by President Moon Jae-in, went into effect for businesses with more than 300 employees, state-run agencies and government offices starting Sunday.
Under the law, which slashed the maximum weekly work hours to 52 from 68, workers in South Korea will be allowed to work 40 hours and an additional 12 hours of overtime.

They already speak Korean.
Perhaps this is a way to create jobs for the NKs. If they had an influx first and THEN cut SK hours, the SK’s might “blame” the NK’s more directly if they were reliant on that grueling workweek for $$$. This way, promoting work/life balance FIRST and then letting NK’s fill the urgent need for workers to take up the slack might lessen the tension. I dunno.
In Europe doctors have had to watch patients die because they were over their legal work hours for the week. I hope SK has exempted medical staff.
I worked 70 hours 3 weeks at a time when the workload demanded it. We could always quit. Others did the alternative: they cried.

Was discussing why a Russian thought America was so wealthy. They thought we stole those huge American houses from the minorities. When I told them about 70 hour work weeks and second jobs they started at me and said we were crazy. I said the BUILT those huge houses...

I lived and worked for a year in Seoul. Lived off my base, (Yong San).
These Koreans were the hardest working folks i have Ever seen.
I worked 85 hours for several months after months of 56 hour weeks. Mozt of my work life has been 6 days or the equivalent in 5. Worked 49 for 7 years. Once did 91 hou 23rd s.in a week .Add in travel time etc and 8 hours sleep cant happen. More like 4 or 5.But then again the most common thing said to me “you look tired”.
They need time to date, court, marry, have babies and raise their families. I hear there is no time for that anymore and fewer people are fulfilling their natural life’s path. I love Korean culture, thru watching Kdramas. I always wish the best for their country.

My favorite is “My Love From the Star”, I’ve watched it three times.
“Goblin: The Lonely and Great God” is another of my favorites.
The best time travel kdrama is “Nine.” I have more than one time watched my snowy winter favorites, “Winter Sonata” and “That Winter, That Wind Blows.” Both also have outstanding soundtracks.
I just talked to my mom this evening, out conversation went to what dramas we were watching. Mom: Wok; me” Dal Ja’s Spring.

At my 30 year high school reunion I met up with a buddy of mine, along with his German wife and SIL. The reunion was in Irvine and we had time to kill so I suggested we take the Newport Harbor tour. Afterwards, his SIL asked what kind of criminal activity the owners of those fancy houses had engaged in.
Only hardship was going to work every day riding an overly stuffed bus with way too many folks who’d all just ate kimchi.
Lots of real bad breath and lots of farting.
