Manson follower Leslie Van Houten denied parole

A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge on Friday refused to overturn Gov. Jerry Brown’s decision denying parole to former Charles Manson follower and convicted killer Leslie Van Houten.

In his ruling, Judge William C. Ryan said there was “some evidence” to support Brown’s decision in refusing to release Leslie Van Houten, 68, who in 1971 was found guilty of taking part in the brutal killings of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca in Los Angeles.

If released, Ryan found that Van Houten “would pose an unreasonable risk of danger to society.”

Ryan said the brutal and terrorizing manner in which Van Houten and her accomplices killed the LaBiancas demonstrates how the crime was more heinous than most and stands apart from others.

Jeremy Strohmeyer, who at 18 raped and killed a 7 year old girl in a restroom at a casino and left her lifeless body in the toilet was sentenced to life in prison. He is requesting parole because he was “only” 18 when he committed his heinous crime. His request is supported by some psychologists who maintain that those in their late teens don’t have the intellectual and emotional maturity of adults, as well a Supreme Court decision that said that juveniles who kill “only” one person should have a chance at parole. https://www.reviewjournal.com/crime/courts/man-who-killed-girl-in-1997-at-nevada-casino-wants-chance-at-parole/

While I can appreciate some of the arguments made in his favor and Manson’s groupie because of her good behavior and apparent change of heart as well as the often light sentences of some by contrast, there still needs to be consequences that fit the particular heinous degree of certain crimes, in my opinion.

Having seen her interviewed several times and given her prison record, I doubt Leslie Van Houten is a threat to society. However, some crimes are so vile that they deserve the death penalty or absent that, life imprisonment.

I really don't care one way or other about Leslie Van Houten. She should have been executed 45+ years ago but the fact that she wasn't and used the opportunity to apparently rehabilitate herself would support parole. On the other side, few crimes were more vicious and anyone involved deserves the maximum penalty allowable (which now in California means life imprisonment).

>>I think if Charlie was 25 years old today and accomplished the same act....he’d just be declared insane
What? No. Just no.
If Charlie was 25 today, he’d run for congress in NY or NJ, and win. He’d be a hero to the left.

I agree with the argument re degree of heinousness. She and the rest of them really should have been executed. I don’t think that many of the people who make the argument about life sentences being harsher, are being honest. That evil pos Dennis Rader will never get out prison, if he lived to be 400-but he’s glad to still be alive, even having served a lot of it in solitary confinement. He can still watch tv, get and send letters, read books, etc. For all anyone knows, that evil scum still sits and relishes the pain and agony and degradation he visited upon innocent people, including children. He should have been dead, with just enough time to ponder his execution and erasement from history a little.

Yes, the looney left was already trying to mythologise him before his trial had even ended. They never stopped interviewing him and his cult, there are tee shirts with his image (much like another of their sadistic murdering hero’s, Guevara).

I was a young teenager when I read the book Helter Skelter. I cannot forget the evil that this pos committed. I still have nightmares about that book.

May she rot in prison for eternity.

From the article:

“In January 2018, Brown reversed a parole board’s decision to free Van Houten,”

The parole board recommenced her for release! What in the world possessed them??

I dont care if they chop her head off, That being said stop the farce of parole. She deserves it as much as the other skids they let out based on prison records age and threats to society

I say put her under house arrest with an ankle monitor if that’s cheaper than keeping her in prison.

Exactly. Everyone becomes a feeble older fairly sweet and harmless person. But what you did never goes away, no matter how helpless you eventually become. Justice is justice.

I agree completely....Keep her there unconditionally!
....I don’t base my opinion on what the present day ridiculous sentencing is

I’m just glad they’re holding the line with these satanic monsters.

Rather than base her incarceration as a “Just Sentence” Ryan actually told the truth. If released, Ryan found that Van Houten “would pose an unreasonable risk of danger to society.” The left suffers a real risk that on the outside she might have some notoriety and expose the roots of the progressive movement.
