Amy Coney Barrett would make a politically shrewd replacement for Justice Kennedy
Washington Examiner ^ | David Freddoso

Michael Brendan Dougherty has some advice for President Trump that I think is worth repeating, in regards to replacing Justice Anthony Kennedy this fall: Appoint Amy Coney Barrett, Trump's recent addition to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals.

The facts of Barrett’s life — that she is a mother of seven children, and that when she speaks about her Catholic faith, she speaks about God as if she really believes in His existence — will provoke nasty and bigoted statements from Democratic senators and liberal media personalities. Again...It won’t just be her faith. In 2012, a columnist chastised two Republican presidential candidates for their “smug fecundity.” For Barrett, the comments on the number of children she has are likely to be much worse. The fact is that women nominated for positions of authority often inspire hysterical and self-defeating reactions in those who oppose them.

I agree. For one thing, Barrett is only 46 years old and could easily serve on the court until 2060. It also doesn't hurt to put a conservative woman on the court. But in addition, this would be an especially shrewd move ahead of the midterm elections.

.………….yeah RIGHT...…….”Freddoso” wants to give the most important job in the US to this human being because said human being is a WOMAN,a catholic, 47, and has 7 kids.

Far from shrewd, 7 kids ought to disqualify her instead of the opposite. I have two and they are both adults and doing fine. But, they can be a huge distraction. With 5 more, particularly depending on their ages, I would pull my hair out by the roots. Ask Sarah Palin about “kids”. Indeed, now that I think about it, I question her JUDGMENT about even having 7 kids.

Give the freaking job to the most solid and most qualified person who has the track record to prove it! I believe Trump will do exactly that.

Judge Barrett is a Roman Catholic.

Big deal. So is that idiot Pope.

Honestly, I don’t trust the minds of women and don’t want any of them on the Supreme Court. I’m sorry if that offends any of the women here.

Kavanaugh was involved in the Vincent Foster coverup, according to:

I looked her up last night. She’s photogenic and has great credentials. I’d like to know more about her rulings though. We really need to make sure we’re getting a strict constructionist and not a David Souter type.

The only thing I care about at her age is if she is a ROCK SOLID Originalist/Constitutionalist who’s judicial ideology make Thomas look moderate.

Precisely. I admire her religious sentiments, but I've seen in the past that such sentiments can lead people to take some very strange political tacks.

And why exactly is having 7 kids a plus? Allready all 4 of the current conservative judges have kids. And what could it be, 0.0001% of the population that has 7 kids?

You might want to take those words back because I can’t think of two more originalist and conservative justices in the last fifty years than those “discerning” Catholics Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas.

#14: "Don’t do it. Women move left as they grow older and experience the Beltway crowd. It’s a guarantee — a law of nature."

Women are also wired to achieve consensus with their "girlfriends" and there are already three "girlfriends" on the court. On this fact alone she will be pulled left.

If we are playing that game, better to pick Amul Thapar. Asian-Americans are already wobbling - when they see Thapar being viciously attacked by Senate Democrats, they will finally realize what a lie all of that “diversity” and “inclusiveness” garbage has been.

And why exactly is having 7 kids a plus?

I would guess that she would be a woman against abortion.

With all those kids, she’s sure to be an expert in changing diapers. This might come in useful if she has to spend a lot of time in chambers with Ruth.

:-)

(1) Jorge the Humble's leftist policy preferences are not coterminous with the Catholic faith. I'm sure that Barrett is smart enough to make that distinction.

(2) Even if a law were obviously inconsistent with the Catholic faith (e.g., a liberal divorce law), Barrett understands that her job is to determine the constitutionality of the law rather than its Catholicity.

In what way?

No Women, they are too easily swayed by other Women’s Feelings. No Women.

Agreed. Appointing a 46 year old female Souter would be a huge mistake. The Donald has been known to make quick decisions on personnel and some of them don't turn out well. You can't do a re-do with this one. Tread softly and carefully in your decision Mr President.

“Indeed, now that I think about it, I question her JUDGMENT about even having 7 kids.”

So she should have killed them in the womb? Is that the kind of judgement that impresses you?

And why exactly is having 7 kids a plus?

Because it will cause leftists, particularly Planned Parenthood/NARAL types to absolutely lose their minds and attack her in a way that alienates regular folks who have a soft spot for women who like being mothers (which she obviously does) and who welcome into their lives as many children as God gives them.

Don’t do it. Women move left as they grow older and experience the Beltway crowd. It’s a guarantee — a law of nature.

It's called "the change" for a reason. Every man whether married or divorced who's miraculously survived living with a woman going through it knows why too.

I'm really sick of the "she needs to get picked because she's a woman/catholic" argument, it's no better than the identity politics bullshit the Democrats play.
