Intern for Dem senator suspended for shouting 'f--- you' at Trump

An intern for Democratic Sen. Maggie Hassan (N.H.) was suspended for a week for shouting an expletive at President Trump while he visited the Capitol last week.

The intern will have restricted access to the Capitol moving forward, Aaron Jacobs, director of communications for Hassan, told The Hill in a statement.

“We are aware of the situation and have taken disciplinary action, including a one-week suspension and revoking her Congressional intern ID badge (thereby restricting her access to the Capitol), in response to her breach of office policies regarding respectful and appropriate conduct. We also facilitated contact with Capitol Police," Jacobs said.

Hassan's office did not immediately respond to a request to identify the intern, but multiple media reports indicate her name is Caitlin Marriott.

If one comes at this from the angle of consistency vis-a-vis job responsibilities, and therefore implicitly on whether or not one can be fired for straying from those responsibilities on company time, then I am 100% with you. Employers should be able to hire and fire as they wish and we will let the market sort it out. As such, I don't disagree that the intern CAN (and should) be fired...it's no different from a junior employee yelling f you at the CEO with the possible exception of this being a First Amendment issue given the employer is the government.

I think all FReepers (and most normal Americans) approved of Joe Wilson's commentary, not just because he was correct and insofar as "correction" is part of a congressman's job but because (at that time) nobody in the Republican Party had the guts to call him out. The only issue there was with decorum.

However, we will have to disagree on whether or not many approving of firing this intern would have tacitly or explicitly approved of my fictitious intern shouting f bombs at Obama. And THAT has been my point all along, of consistency in this context. Thank you for the clarification on your stance.

I remember a member of GOP said to obama, “You lie!” and that dominated all media for about 10 days. He did not engage in profanity, he simply told the truth.

Suspended is just a euphemism for ‘go home for a few days but come back at full salary when the press is focused on something else.’

Why is this leftist troll still here? Did he make a huge donation to FR or something?

Caitlin Marriott - it’s right in the text at the top.

The difference is that the gentleman in question was telling the truth.

But, of course, a liberal like you wouldn’t be familiar with truth in any form.

Isn’t Rutland where they landed a whole bunch of muzzies - or am I thinking of another place?

Agreed. That’s grounds for dismissal not suspension.

You do make a good point about kids having a free pass on everything until they get their first job. I saw that all the way back in the 1980s although nobody was as dumb or craven as this gal. She should be writing names on Starbuck coffee cups not working for Senators.

Working for that Parliament of Whores actually seems like a pretty good fit for this chick.

Why is she hugging a wall?

It's the only thing willing to get close to her.

In the real world, of course. But, this is Washington DC...
