Yep. The history of Islam has occasional times where successful Muslim barbarians become rich off of their conquests and start liking something approaching a civil society. They become before the Koran decadent and backslidden, even “tolerant” (the Baathist were bad but but they were marginally secular nationalists and so were better than Obama’s friends in the MB), in the eyes of some rural true believers who then raise an army and strike.
Aside: it would have been nice if instead of panicking about an emerging Christian Russia if England and France had instead taken the opportunity to join with them to destroy the Ottomans and not stopped till Mecca was a burnt out ruin and there were no independent Muslim lands left.
