The drug, which is legal for medical use in the majority of US states, is mainly prescribed to ease pain. But this new research conducted in Colorado - which was the first state to legalize - suggests that short-term pain relief could weaken the body's resilience to pain over time. The researchers, from the Swedish Medical Center, Colorado, analyzed around 260 people who were involved in minor vehicle accidents and admitted to trauma centers. Of these, 54 tested positive for recent marijuana use while 16 claimed they used the drug more or less every day.

It’s also a bronchodilator...which enables more oxygen to be processed by the lungs.
LOL! I was thinking the same thing.
My good buddy has smoked everyday since he was 15 and he has never hurt anyone. 41 now. What is your point?
Just bc many pro potters argue a fantasy that ALL pot heads are docile non criminals doesnt mean that I am arguing that ALL pot users are violent thugs. ...Just the thousands I have, or am interacting with, daily.

Why am I not in prison?
I smoked every day for 23 years.
Why is my criminal record empty?
Incidentally, so did my buddy.
Why is he not in prison?
Why is his criminal record empty?
Maybe they are just violent criminals, and pot doesn’t have anything to do with it, and your correlation is not valid.
Hey, salty, yo. Are you admitting to cherry picking data? Just joking.
There are a ton of books that discuss 1970s/1980s crime increases and late 80s/90s criminal reform and LE strategies that successfully reduced crime. Read some.
I totally understand. Dated a guy for several years who was always stoned. I grew very tired of it. Took the drive to accomlish right out. Was an accomished graduate. He died of opiod overdose a few years ago. Buried on his birthday.
All I said was simple: drug use and criminal behavior correlate. To say otherwise ignores reality. I never said all mj users are violent. I did say that I deal and have dealt with thousands of criminals who use drugs and whose drug use instigated their criminal behavior.
That isnt some radical concept or outline.
Did these criminals you speak of use marijuana exclusively, or did they also use alcohol? Cocaine?
LOL I resemble that remark!
Well, when drug use is illegal then naturally ... oh, never mind. It's really complicated to explain.
No one drinks anymore. Its passe. If you are committing crimes drunk you are over 35 or enrolled in college and just did something real stupid. They all use weed. Some use weed and cocaine. They sprinkle the coke on it and roll it. Honestly, Methamphetamine (meth, M-AMP, ice, etc) remains the big problem. Few use M-AMP without pot though, but almost no one goes straight to ice without pot first. Out of my 4 suicides last year, all were ice + pot users. There are still some crack users but they are the low of the low and usualyy older. They started with alc then pot, then went to cocaine and went junkie and homeless and turned to crack, or just went to crack back in the 90s and never looked back. No one really wants to use crack; you just end up there when the money runs out. Then there are the heroin/fentanyl users. They all start with pot. Then they use pain killers they buy on the street or steal from mom for the calming effects. Muscle relaxers. Then their dealer turns them to ol china or if they are poor its ginned up ills laced with fent or car-fent. Thats the overdoses. People OD on fent/car-fent from dumb dealers or street pill makers.
Then there are what I call the 5%-ers. Dudes who use pot their whole life and do just fine. Never branch out. My buddy is one. Big minority though when you consider the nation wide numbers.
It all, mostly, starts with pot.
Sry so long and so many typos.
“Pot legalization really began in the mid 2000’s.”
California voted for medical mj in 1996, followed by more states each election cycle. Local laws, overall, were becoming less punitive as well.
CA’s murder rate in 1996 was 9.1/100K. In 2016, it was 4.9/100K, still below the national average. Now, I doubt very much that medical mj had much to do with the drop. However, it does put a crimp in the idea that legalization leads to more violent crime.
What about when drugs are used legally?
Has a drunk person ever committed a crime while drunk and because he/ she/ it was drunk?
Ok, good point/stat
