Impeach Rod Rosenstein
WSJ ^ | 6/18/2018 | william mcgurn

The long-awaited showdown between the Justice Department and Congress is finally here.

It started late Friday afternoon. While the rest of the country was parsing the just-released report on the FBI from the Justice Department’s inspector general, senior congressional leaders and selected committee chairmen quietly met with FBI Director Christopher Wray and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein at a secure location in the basement of the Capitol.

At issue was Justice and FBI’s continuing defiance of congressional subpoenas. At the top of this list is the demand from the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence for documents about why and whether the FBI had an informant insinuating himself with Trump campaign officials before the Russia investigation officially started.

His hands are tied until the Mueller fiasco is over. If he does anything, they will scream obstruction. But once it is over, the gloves are off.

>Congress has it’s own jail. It used to. Not sure it still does. IIRC they repurposed that space c. FDR. They should make space for it anew. My suggesting is to repurpose the Congressional Black Caucus's space on the grounds it's an intrinsically racist and thus unAmerican organization. Rat and media heads will explode as much wherever you put it so you might as well go big! Congress should then excuse their jail from all the cushy perks they and the courts have imposed on article II and state jails. Give their guests a nice retro, original intent experience. The likely guests would find it educational and potential future guests would find that very educational.

“You people really crack me up. None of you know what is going on at the DOJ.”

What I do know is that Rosenstein promised Trump that RR was on his team “up to the limits of his oath of office”.

RR lied and he broke his promise. He didn’t push the DOJ response to this OIG report to the line of his oath of office - not even close !

RR had huge discretion to do much more than he did. We got about what would have been expected if Sally Yates was still DAG.

“How you going to get two-thirds of the Senate to convict?”

Just making them vote would drag a lot of sordid facts out in public.

Then if more dirt comes out later, you can hang their vote on them.

I heard that the requested documents are due precisely @ 10:00 in the morning, and if they are not there, Impeachment begins precisely @ 10:01.

Trump understands timing. These perps aren't going anywhere, we will know where to find them when the time is right. It is never wise to act with urgency unless the house is on fire. It will be better to await a process with some semblance of order rather than to fly off the handle.

You don't need to convict. Trump can fire him if the House impeaches.

If you go to Real Clear Politics www.realclearpolitics.com tey have a link to the article that is not pay wall protected. There is little that congress can do to compel Rosenstein and Wray to do. They can impeach or file contempt of congress but there are not enough votes to impeach either of them. A contempt charge and a criminal referral would go to the DoJ the very people who are withholding the subpoenaed records and that means Rosenstein would have to prosecute himself which of course isn’t going to happen. The third possibility is to send the sergeant at arms to arrest Rosenstein or Wray but you can be pretty sure he would be escorted out of the building by half a dozen FBI agents if not arrested himself for interfering with law enforcement. The DoJ with a corrupt Acting Attorney General and an Attorney General disinterested in actually doing his job and a president who will be impeached with the help of members of his own party if he intervenes is basically above the law.

“Wasn’t Matt Gaetz saying something, tonight on FoxNews, about proceedings for Impeachment of Rosenstein will begin this week?”

As soon as tomorrow, I’ve heard. We will see if Rosenschmeckel is going to blink, or loose his job, and Trump’s hands are clean!

Doesn’t matter if they impeach Rosenstein Trump still cannot fire him because members of his own party will help the Democrats impeach Trump. I am guessing that even if Trump ordered Rosenstein to declassify the requested documents that Rosenstein would refuse and say Trump was obstructing justice by obstructing the Mueller probe. If Trump fires him for insubordination Trump will be impeached. The only hope is if Sessions grew a set of balls and did the firing but that ain’t going to happen either. You have a better chance of growing a pair on Chaz Bono.

IF they do that, Congress will cut the funding of the FBI by 90% during the next budget impasse.

The criminals involved in this coup attempt are moving the last pieces on the chess board. They’ve been caught because they’re stupid and now they have to make their last gasp attempts to save their hides. I’m hoping Trump, with God’s help, will be a few moves ahead of them.

BTW, this whole thing started from the top. The desk in the oval office. With some resident.

#18. The Deep State has to be DESTROYED, not dismantled. If you remember an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, or perhaps one of TNG movies, a Borg cube-ship was blown apart in space, only to begin to re-form like oil droplets do when splattered.

You destroy your enemies, America’s enemies. Never give them any mercy because they will arise again and stab you and our country in the back.

They are like cancer. You don’t just stop it. You destroy it.

Trump will still have to dirty his hands.

The House could impeach but the Senate won't remove. So after the House impeaches, and lacking the votes to convict in the Senate, Trump will have enough support to fire Rosenstein, without himself being impeached.
