The Trump administration has likely lost track of nearly 6,000 unaccompanied migrant children, thousands more than lawmakers were alerted to last month, according to a McClatchy review of federal data... “There is a lot more,” said a field specialist who worked in the Office of Refugee Resettlement until earlier this year and was tasked with reaching out to sponsors and children to check on their well-being. “You can bet that the numbers are higher. It doesn’t really give you a real picture.” The new estimate comes as backlash widens over President Donald Trump's' decision to separate parents and children. Advocates argue the growing numbers of unaccounted children should be expected as families and sponsors become more fearful of federal officials that is now using information from government social workers to run immigration checks and, in some cases, target sponsors, including parents and family members, for removal.

Way at the bottom there’s a passing mention that this is a continuation of an Obama caused problem.
This is part of that swarm of child illegals that came on those trains during the Obama POTUS/Clinton Dept State period.
Those kids were “lost track of” long before Trump took office.
The government should put bounties on every illegal that had overstayed their visas, missed hearings, ordered deported. Set up an 800 line and email to report illegal aliens.

ok, let’s talk about it. Under current law, ‘sponsors’ can also be illegals. And so, they and those they sponsor ‘disappear’ as far as checking in with immigration. However, if you check the welfare AFDC rolls in sanctuary states, you’re probably going to find those kids because the adults aren’t going to give up the free money.

The government lost track of them because they were following the catch and release policy, taken advantage of by invaders that don’t want to be found. They never intended to show up for hearings.
People working in social services do not check their status as eligible for benefits, and employers don’t check them either. Schools and hospitals can’t ask.
Taxpayers foot the bill. Democrats get more votes.
