You wouldn’t want a loved one maimed or dead. You’d want them to find help for a serious mental/emotional disorder — and you’d think they were worth the effort.
A Fool and his limbs are soon parted. So many suffering from mental illness.
I call this FITH Syndrome. The last part is “in the head” - the rest is obvious. So is the treatment...stop paying attention to these crazies.
