Omar Mohamad travelled from Reading to march against the EDL leader and left Sergeant Guy Rooney with a severely bruised face.
The 62-year-old joined the Hyde Park event led by the controversial leader with a group of men.
During the rally he scuffled with the officer and struck him with a walking stick.
Sergeant Rooney suffered from post traumatic stress and his bruising was so bad his children wouldn't walk to school with him.
Passing a 26 week suspended sentence, District Judge Richard Blake said the rally was held "to express views that were adverse to the Muslim community in the United Kingdom".
He added: "We live in a democracy - people should feel free, within limits, to express their opinions.
"You were with a group of other men. It is fair to say that immediately in front of you there was a fracas.
"You joined into the melee that happened and you joined in with your stick.
"While you do need that stick to walk with, you very much used it by wielding it around as a weapon. You brought the stick round and struck the officer in the face.
"There is no doubt that this was a very significant injury that you caused with your stick."
Before his sentencing, Mohamad had written Mr Rooney an apology letter which the judge took into consideration.

I am reminded of the show trials in the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany as I ready about the British judicial system.
Britain is now a dangerous place and its government is solely to blame.
Write the British Embassy and tell them why you will never visit there.
If I’m going to go to a dangerous foreign country, it will be as a paid member of the U.S. military.
Hmm...already done that; Vietnam, OEF-3. Wouldn’t go back under any other circumstances.
Was there any doubt? Sad Eeeeek Con probably weighed in since no knife or meat cleaver was involved.
I am so very ashamed of what’s being allowed to happen in the land of my forebearers . . .
Ditto. ‘Course it HAS been awhile.
So recording a live video will get you 13 months in jail, but bludgeoning a police officer gets you off scott free. Tommy should have just bludgeoned a police officer.
Yes, a very long while, but it’s still been such a preventable tragedy over there.
I hope this nation learns from the example of the UK’s seeming capitulation before it happens to us as well.
Who does he think he is??? Hillary???
If you walk into District Judge Richard Blake’s courtroom, bash him over the head with a cane and all will be forgiven. I like this UK system of justice.
Entitled infidelaphobes. I do wonder if the UK government will ever awake to the islam hordes and the grand delusion this demonic ideology not their utopian answer for peace but they keep doubling down.
Tommy Robinson is in prison for political speech. This violent thug gets a suspended sentence for attacking a police officer. I no longer believe there can be a peaceful resolution to this insanity.
Hardly. You'll get a tough 26-week suspended sentence. The Brits don't take kindly to that sort of violence.
He was trying to understand English culture. Having just sat through a Punch and Judy puppet show, he came to believe that hitting people with sticks was funny and entertaining. So why not be “friendly” to the local bobby?
‘Judge’ Richard Blake, unfkn believable brain dead, advances the suicide of Britain.
“We are your overlords...”
Is the entire political/judicial class determined on the death of Britain? Those that are should be hanged. The Tommy Robinson judge and ‘judge’ Richard Blake at least. ‘Mayor’ Khan, anyone?
How appropriate!
Chamberlain explains alot of what’s in the modern British character.
I’ll take “gun crazed Cowboy’ as a American caricature rather than a spineless dolt that more fitting to be in Monty Python skit than ruling the once great Britannica.
Great Britain has fallen. Even the Bobbies.
