Fox News host Tucker Carlson is being criticized for telling his viewers on Friday night that they should distrust news reports from the big news stations.
If you're looking to understand what's actually happening in this country, always assume the opposite of whatever they're telling you on the big news stations, Carlson said, despite Fox News sitting on top of the cable news ratings for 197 consecutive months.
His comments led some to poke fun at his apparent contradiction and to also note the damage such comments can have on the public trust in journalism.
CNNs Brian Stelter called the comments "sad," while Michael Barbaro at The New York Times called them repugnant and literally damaging to our democracy.

We can’t have Tucker Carlson telling the rubes out there about the scam.
Of course, critized by those he criticized. He was correct.
CNN and the New Yawk Times “criticizing” Tucker Carlson. Now there’s some “news” right there. New sh*t. ROTFL. The “media” is such a joke.
Like the Amish “teens” who blame the cops because they are in jail. What a bad joke they are on themselves.
In other words, don’t believe what you hear and only 1/2 of what you see.
He shouldn’t have made that claim without giving a bunch of examples.
Tucker Carlson 100% correct!
Love watching Tucker, but I change the channel when he has that goofball bald headed idiot democrat stratigist Richard whats his name on...
Just tape him and play the same stupid lying talking points he spits out everytime...
Consider the source of the criticism: CNN/NYT? Yep .... don’t pay attention to their news stories, just don’t!
Richard Goodslime
Of course he is correct. He is pissing off the right people.
I was already there Tucker!
After the bust of MLK got removed from the White House, and reported around the world with cackling glee, only to be a completely false news story, I refused to read or listen to those main stream media outlets. That lie was not checked by a second source, because when it comes to reporting against Republicans and Trump, one doesn’t need journalistic standards. Hate prevails, only hate is their rule.
When Dukakis ran against Bush Sr., a study produced at the time showed 87% of reporters voting for Dukakis. A soft establishment Republican like Bush was far too right wing for them.
This crisis of a lopsided media has been going on for decades. For these leftward journalist to feign umbrage, to doth protest too much, gives you all the proof you need that the phenomena is not only too true, but a law of physics.
I read the excerpt only, and am still laughing as I write this, and will probably be laughing still as you read this hours from now, and even tomorrow.
...repugnant and literally damaging to our democracy.
I’ve held to that principle for at least 20 years now and can testify it’s a nigh-flawless approach.
Like Russians watching Pravda. They know it is all lies. Yet they watch it anyway. Whatever Pravda says, they know the opposite is true.
Far greater damage is done to "the public trust in journalism" (what little remains) by journalists who lie, distort, propagandize, deceive, and pretend to an objectivity they don't possess.
But yeah, let's blame it on the messenger.
CBS and AssPress attempted to turn the 2004 presidential election with some forged national guard memos and they did not even address questions of authenticity for 3 days (went into the weekend with a lingering lie).
