Norway Wants to Double US Marines and Deploy Them Closer to Russia

Norway will ask the United States to double the number of U.S. troops stationed in the country and deploy them nearer the border with Russia, the government said Tuesday.

The announcement came after nine nations along NATO's eastern flank called Friday for the alliance to bolster its presence in their region: Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia.

Oslo said it wants to boost the troop numbers to 700 and station them further north at Setermoen, 420 kilometres (260 miles) from Russia.

The U.S. deployment agreement would also be extended from the current six-month renewable periods to five years.

"The defense of Norway depends on the support of our NATO allies, as is the case in most other NATO countries," said Defense Minister Frank Bakke-Jensen in a statement.

"For this support to work in times of crises and war, we are totally dependent on joint training and exercises in times of peace," he added.

We need to pull our troops out of Europe. The place has all the money it needs to defend itself.

Not only that, but stop ALL foreign aid to EVERYONE. Then restore it on a case-by-case basis only when it provides a clear benefit to the United States of America.

Helping the poor in other countries should be a function of CHARITY freely given, period.

"For this support to work in times of crises and war, we are totally dependent on joint training and exercises in times of peace," he added.

Let me fix that for you, Mr Defense minister:
"For this support to work in times of crises and war, because we choose to fund socialism instead of our own defense we are totally dependent on joint training and exercises in times of peace American blood and treasure,," he added.

There, now it's accurate.

I am sick and tired of other countries expecting the United States of America to use our best and finest young men as their tripwire.

Those countries are too lazy and cynical and have thought for too long they can use our treasures to protect them while they dabble in their Socialism.

I learned enough about Norwegian dealing from episode 1 of The Sandbaggers.

They can get their own marines domestically.

Goodness! They will fight to the last American.

Of course they will! It's their way.

All of Western Europe and all the other strap hangers finally need to learn a lesson and start paying for most of their defense. Norway pays a whopping 1.6% (sarc) of their GDP for defense. I think a dash of cold water in their face will make them realize how bad off they really are.

When all these leaches have to start paying they will have to start dumping their socialist policies as they will no longer be able to afford all the government giveaways. If they still have a brain in their skulls they will understand that if they decide to capitulate to whomever threatens them (probably Russia), just to save their socialism, they will most likely become slaves.

Yep. Norway is a rich country. They are a major oil exporter. They can start spending at least 2% of GDP on Defense if they have real security concerns. If they don’t have real security concerns as demonstrated by an unwillingness to meet their NATO obligations, they won’t be needing those marines.

Time for the Yurps to grow up.
