Proposal to split California into three states earns spot on ballot
The Hill ^ | 06/12/18 | Luis Sanchez

A proposal to split California into three separate states got enough votes on Tuesday to be added to the midterm ballot in November.

Tim Draper, a venture capitalist, was the proponent of the long-shot initiative to split the state, which got nearly 420,000 valid signatures, more than enough to be included in the General Election ballot in November, according to California's secretary of State.

Adding the proposal to the ballot is the first in a long number of steps that would be required to actually split the country's largest state.

Even if California voters supported the proposal in November, the California legislature would still have to vote in favor of it.

The breakup would also likely be challenged in court and would need congressional approval, a tough get in today's hyperpartisan Washington.

The initiative proposes the state to be split into three new states: California, Northern California and Southern California. Each state, though different in size, would have roughly the same population, according to the proposal.

When split in 3, the southern most state will vote to become part of Mexico.

And liberals won't know how it happened.

It would likely mean 4 more Democrat Senators and would alter the electoral college in favor of the Democrats as well.

the California legislature would still have to vote in favor of it

And that is why it will never happen.

I grew up in Socal, lived in Norcal for 22 years. Mom was from Oakland, Dad from South Gate. Third generation Californian here.

The guy that drew the lines does not understand the dynamics of the state. Monterey County identifies with the north. LA/Orange County is one metropolitan area and should not be split.

Splitting up the Central Valley is also a bad idea. This plan should be voted down.

each CA state would get about 18 EVs. A republican might be able to swing one of the three states.

Someone said he was a Russian now living Siberia.

It sounds like someone is pushing another alleged Russian connection to discredit the effort.

EV wise it’s probably good for GOP, they’d have a chance at some of them vs. no chance at any of them now.

But yes the effect on the Senate would be a primary concern.

The Southern "state" would include San Diego, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties, and would be the most conservative by far. Might even build a wall... The Central state would be dominated by the LA Megalopolis, while the Northern state would be ruled by the extreme left Bay Area.

Never gonna happen anyway.

Also, Northern California is conservative and would not want to be ruled by San Francisco.

The map on the right is from the 2016 election.

I can’t do this as I would be in Southern California, which is too much to write the rest of my life. I’m a guy who would by a GMC over a Chevrolet just because of it being a shorter name.

However..... I may vote for this. I just can’t envision anything worse than my current experience here.f it splits, I’d be in the most conservative new state.

fta... the country’s largest state.
****************************************
I’m really tired of reporters and talking heads on TV saying that! I’ve heard Tucker Carlson say it several times. Why haven’t his producers corrected him?

CA is NOT the largest State; it is 3rd largest, behind AK and TX.

The state of Jefferson makes sense.

Trying to get anything else sane out of Californis now is not possible.

You have to somehow split off the two main liberal state-controlling centers of L.A. and San Fagsicko. Scrotumento will go with SF, of course.

If illegal immigration gets under control, SD and Orange county might revert to being conservative.

California has become far too weird in the last 40 years to make sense of. Better to just cut it loose.

Do not forget what a cesspool Srotumento is.

SF should be part of the LA swamp. They are joined at the crotch.

Ventura county should not be in there, but I gather has become overrun with illegals. Used to be a conservative bastion. My moving out was not the cause of the loss. C'est la vie

Is the yellow California divided by the San Andreas Fault?

Is this prophetic?
