Pompeo says Trump can offer North Korea security assurances unlike any in the past
The San Francisco Examiner ^ | June 11, 2018 | Montse Reyes

On the eve of a historic meeting between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo dangled new security concessions while publicly downplaying expectations that the nuclear summit will lead to anything beyond future talks.

As senior U.S. and North Korean negotiators huddled all day in working-level talks, Pompeo highlighted the extraordinary nature of the rushed Singapore summit, which brings a mercurial U.S. president and an erratic North Korean dictator face to face for the first time to haggle over the apocalyptic threat of nuclear war.

“There are only two people that can make decisions of this magnitude, and those two people are going to be sitting in a room together tomorrow,” Pompeo told reporters here Monday.

Several hours later, Kim made clear he was tired of waiting, so the normally secretive autocrat found an unexpected way to soften his image and make fresh headlines: He went sightseeing for an hour.

Kim’s motorcade left his heavily fortified luxury hotel shortly after 9 p.m. and headed to some of the busiest tourist destinations in downtown Singapore, including the rooftop of the Marina Bay Sands hotel and the Jubilee Bridge.

Surrounded by his entourage, a throng of bodyguards and Singapore government officials, Kim took in the sights and basked in camera flashes, greeted by a curious and buzzy crowd everywhere he went.

He even posed, smiling, for a selfie snapped by Singapore’s foreign minister, Vivian Balakrishnan.

It was a scene unthinkable in the history of his reclusive nation, where for seven decades, his father and grandfather were only seen in staid, staged images issued by state media.

Trump spent a quiet evening largely out of sight....

The United States can hardly play the game of “if you get rid of your nukes, we will then get rid of you.” We would never be able to make a deal with any other nation again.

LOL.
Changing the subject slightly.
I wonder why the liberal Calvuto is doing Hannity’s
slot on Fox tonight.
Hannity did his radio show fro Singapore.
Why not his TV show?
Anybody know why?

I bet the use of Trump’s barber - be that as it is - would be a huge offer from Donald.

My basic assessment watching Trump's successful first 1.4 years in office is supportive of my general belief - that ‘elite’ universities are the last place we should ever look for public servants. The last. They have a very distinguished history of utter incompetence - often mixed with delusional self-belief. Yes, Trump went to UPenn, but he actually did something useful (business degree) and has worked in the private sector ever since. That's credible training for a position in public office. Graduating law school, with no practical real world experience thereafter, is not.

He eventually showed up on his TV Show.
Must have been some technical issues.
Calvuto filled in until Hannity showed up.

Right on.

It is my opinion the entire mob of (both) Democrat and GOP leaders for the entire last generation, have completely led America in exactly the WRONG DIRECTION.

Both parties. Everyone.

They have sold out American production. To lots of places, but worst of all, they have sold us out to China.

The largest communist nation, anywhere.

The absolute biggest. Five times bigger than America.

America really, really is on the wrong path.

Big time.

You are 100% correct. Even still, Trump is unique. Being in the business he was in, he’s a creature of Main Street, not
Wall Street.

And the experience he gained as a national celebrity and reality TV star.

All those things played a part. Maybe more than anything else is the hard work he put in over the years to thoroughly master his business — and he’s been preparing for this role for decades really.

Agreed. Arrangements have been made by men in uniform to secure the North’s trust without gaps in defense. Easier to do now than in the past.

"Offer him Canada’s spot in the G-7."

Give Canada's g-spot to Kim? That would get the gossipy European leaders even more hysterical.
