The Supreme Courts ruling this Monday on my case, Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, helped determine that people of faith remain free to pursue our chosen vocations.
. . . after decades of developing my craft, my home state took it away from me. My case started in 2012 when I was asked to design a wedding cake celebrating a same-sex marriage. I politely declined that request because of my religious beliefs about marriage. But I told the customers that I would sell them anything else in my shop, or create a cake for them for a different event.
As the Bible says, Whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus (Colossians 3:17). This means that when I operate my business, I am always mindful of whether God is pleased with what I create. Thats why even though I serve all people, I cant design cakes that celebrate events or express messages that conflict with my faith.
My beliefs about marriage come from my reading of the Bible. Describing marriage, Jesus said, A man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh (Mark 10:7-8). This shows clearly that God intends marriage to be a union between a husband and a wife.
My case was about a lot more than cakes and weddings. It raised questions that should trouble everyone. Can the government strip people of their careers because of what they believe about inherently religious issues like the meaning of marriage?

That’s great. Just don’t put up a sign saying “no gays allowed” or you’re gonna get sued.
No one and no government can keep you from living your faith, even by killing you.
LOL! After all the publicity I doubt such a sign is needed.
This is why Democrats, Socialists, Communists, Progressives and Fascists try to eliminate religion, and take away your guns. So you are totally dependent on the government, and you have no way to defend yourself.
The left is now calling this a slippery slope to return to racism and religious persecution alike.
Ignorant people - which unfortunately includes my Trump hate-blinded wife - are sucking it up as though it resembles logical thought.
Needless to say that many nights I’m left nodding my head as though I’ve already been committed...
True, but to paraphrase General Patton, you don’t win wars by dying for your faith; you win them by making Satan’s followers die for theirs.
I am a cake decorator and have really had to think of how I would handle this. I am fully against the government requiring you to work against your beliefs, and really would have no problem fighting it just on principle. But, I do want to behave in the manner the Lord has called me to behave.
I finally got to my bottom line after I went to a wedding that was conducted by some new age nutcase.... and I had done the cake.
Obviously new age nutcases are contrary to my beliefs... just like gay weddings. I never have any idea if the wedding will be conducted by a nutcase, a wiccan or a voodoo priest, and I do those cakes. So I decided that if I ever have a gay couple come to me for a cake I will agree. HOWEVER.... I will inform them that I pray heavily over every cake I do, and I ask God to make sure that anyone who has any of this cake will come to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.
I believe prayer works. If they don’t.... then they won’t mind me praying over it, and I have released the Lord’s hands to work in those lives. If they do believe prayer works, and are threatened by this, then they might go elsewhere. Either way it is a win win for me!
In the Court decision, Kagen’s response told the gaystappo how to sin the next battle.
In the Court decision, Kagens response told the gaystappo how to WIN the next battle. (Freudian slip)
A Tennessee hardware store owner did just that back when Obama was president, no one sued him or anything. I forgot his name and the town but you can look it up.
You don’t have to do that, there’s a loophole - hire a subcontractor to do it for you. Non-discrimination laws may say that you can’t refuse service, but nowhere do they say that you personally have to do it. I think it’s high time us Christians thought long and hard about whether the homofascists can affect our livelihoods in any way. Luckily I work in a trade and it won’t touch me ever. My attitude is, I won’t be in this world forever anyway and I’ll be damn glad when I leave. All I need to do is make sure I die a free man.
