HOENIX The deadline for U.S. Sen. John McCain to resign from office and allow Arizonans to elect his replacement in a special election came and went, meaning Gov. Doug Ducey will be tasked with appointing his successor if the Arizona Republican leaves office before his term expires in 2022.
With the current state of the senators health up in the air, rumors have been floating around as to who Ducey could choose to replace McCain.
One of the most notable names? Cindy McCain, the senators wife.
A recent report from NewsMax cited multiple Republicans and political pundits in the state who said they expect the appointment of his wife, Cindy, to succeed him in the Senate.
And as for the timing of Duceys visit with McCain? The governor said it was a complete coincidence, adding that the pair meet every so often and had been trying to get together for weeks.
Ducey said he and McCain joined by their wives spent about 90 minutes together, having a great lunch and great conversation. Ducey also said the senator was doing good.e, Cindy, to succeed him in the Senate.

I thought it was a done deal.
Ok John it is 6/1/18. You can die anytime now.
Ducey didn’t shut down anything. He didn’t even address it.
He simply said, “There is no vacancy. John McCain is our senator.”
McCain Freedom Day!
He can no longer threaten to resign before the cutoff.
The Governor really did not close the door to appointing McCain’s wife though - she is rich, and could fund his future campaigns.
He won’t appoint Cindy McCain.
Meghan.............................
He doesn’t want to answer it directly. I think he’ll nominate himself. The AZ Sec of State is a Republican and could easily step into the Governor’s chair. Ducey is probably a RINO as well, but at least a fresh face.
He didn’t shoot it down, he dodged the question.

Correct. While I would love to see McCains trial balloons popped or, at least, deflated, Governor Ducey did not do so he dodged.
Although the Flake example does give me pause...
You are probably right
I can see him welcoming her, kissing her on each cheek, and then taking the job himself.
All’s fair in love and politics
Good.
Jerk McCain won’t get out of the way because he knows it would help the republicans and hurt his beloved democrats. The guy’s a traitor to our side. Always has been.
Just what we need. Another dynasty.
Newsmax is clickbait.
Isn’t that what got Blagojevich thrown in jail?
Leave him alone, they were talking about the grandchildren
Call me old fashioned, but I like elected officials, even when they are appointed to have run for some other office (and won the office) in the past, just so they have been vetted by the dirty tricks of politics.
