WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday issued a pardon for the late boxer Jack Johnson, an African-American convicted a century ago for the crime of taking a woman across state lines, saying the move corrected a wrong in American history.

The heavyweight champion was arrested in 1912 with Lucille Cameron, a white woman who would later become his wife, for violating the Mann Act, a law that had passed two years earlier in response to a morality campaign.

Don’t you love how Reuters embeds the story “Judge rules Trump can’t block Twitter users” smack in the middle of this one if you don’t have ad blocker on? They can’t possibly let a sliver of positive news go unchallenged.

It’s been 106 years. 20 some-odd POTUSes have come and gone. They all had their chances to do a pardon. If one of them had pardoned him before he died on June 10, 1946, it would have been more than just a gesture. But a nice, if belated, gesture even so.

Of course liberals are upset, because Trump is obviously racist from their perspective......how dare he pardon a black man........oh wait, WHAT?

You got to love it when the race card just doesn’t fit the action.

Yes, Sen. Byrd, whom Hitlery is on record saying he was her “MENTOR” in the Senate. But no— the real liberal white guilt klan loving democrat machine will never own up to what they really are— elitist lying manipulators of political power. And... most importantly as such, Leftist Fascists (all the way from FDR to today).

Good.

Should have happened years ago.

His case is demonstrates in Big Letters and Bold Colors that there are laws which are amoral and should have never existed...

The charges were the consequence of his taking a WHITE woman across state lines.

His pardon was LONG overdue. The racism directed at Johnson (for beating the white boxers and becoming the first black heavyweight boxing champion) was real, and it was an outrage.

To follow up on my last post: his prosecution is also one of the uncounted examples of a well-meaning but bone-headed law (because it could NEVER be applied in a remotely fair manner) that was used to selectively prosecute someone that the authorities took a dislike to.

In Jackson’s case, it was because of his race. This is exactly why the FEWER laws we have, the freer we are from potential (and real) government tyranny ..

.. the Founding Fathers understood this all too well, and bequeathed to us our Republic, with its checks and balances, and Federalism ... which is now on life support ...

Any truth to the rumor that President Trump forced Sly to chase a chicken at the WH?

Plenty of people know who Jack Johnson was. They even made a movie of his life a few years back.

I won’t go there - without the grace of Jesus’ blood, I would be deemed every bit as bad as her in His eyes.
