Its history....deal with it.
As a daughter of the South, our Conferate cemeteries are hallowed ground....
....our Civil War statues are honored as a part of our history.
Whats OTR?
Great musician...but lukewarm in his protest to rap... he needs a little ‘sit down’ with Kanaye
Old Time Radio.
It’s on XM 148 and most of the content is on YouTube as well.
He is right on more than one level. Not only does the profanity and other filth degrade the culture, rap and hip-hop do not require much in the way of musical ability. Rappers don’t sing or play instruments, and it has become so generic that there is no real difference between rappers or the tracks they record. You will not see the next Wynton Marsalis(or any other Marsalis)coming out of the hip-hop ranks because of the reliance on technology such as sampling and digitized backing tracks instead of people who can play an instrument. The result is that everything is so tied to the beat that there is no room for vocal expression or real players launching into any kind of solo. Musical development went down the hip hop rabbit trail and died.
Great, thanks! There is so much on XM and its fun to try something different.
There once was talent and musical ability in rap and hip-hop but that disappeared at least a decade ago. There are some “old school” artists that I actually like but recent vintage is all but unlistenable. Unintelligible lyrics that are pig ignorant once deciphered, no melody, no structure other than boom, boom, boom, no innovation. It’s just lowest common denominator crap. Truth be told the same thing has happened to modern pop music too, in just about the same time frame.
Even worse, dj’s. They can rake in YUGE money but, they get a crowd cranked up and get em buyin’ plenty of booze. Actual musicians, guys around here are making the same I made 50+ years ago for gigs. Inflation hasn’t hit garage bands. LOL! Well except equipment costs have risen.
bkmk
Isn’t New York named after the Duke of York (Royal African Trading Company).
They brought in 100,000 slaves (until ivory became so lucrative).
Whod a thunk it?????surprise surprise....
It wasn't spoken out loud.
Now blacks embrace it because it’s something they can say that Whitey can’t say. Those are the kind of things that matter to that crowd.
Yeah, well Miles totally lost it in the 1980s.
‘Wynton Marsalis said that the racially charged and profanity-laced creations in rap and hip-hop are “more damaging” to the culture and to black Americans “than a statue of Robert E. Lee.”’
is old Wynton auditioning for the part of Captain Obvious...?
‘How is it damaging?’
well, you could stub your toe on it...or it could fall on you...or...
‘I keep saying, Trump WILL take the Black Vote!
uh, no...
He doesn’t need to “take” the black vote. If he can get even 20%, that would be disastrous for the Rats.
...or he could be a SJW with thin skin and a hatred for southerners. (He is)
He’s the typical liberal bigot that claims he hates the south but it was good to keep them in the union, somehow.
