Rod Rosenstein asks DOJ inspector general to review possible Trump campaign infiltration
Washington Examiner ^ | May 20, 2017

Posted on 05/20/2018 3:01:41 PM PDT by deplorableindc

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein asked the Justice Department's inspector general Sunday to review whether there was improper politically motivated surveillance of the Trump campaign in 2016.

Rosenstein made the request shortly after a tweet from President Trump saying that he would "officially" ask "that the Department of Justice look into whether or not the FBI/DOJ infiltrated or surveilled the Trump Campaign for Political Purposes."

In a statement, Rosenstein said: “If anyone did infiltrate or surveil participants in a presidential campaign for inappropriate purposes, we need to know about it and take appropriate action." The attorney general, Jeff Sessions, has recused himself from Russia-related matters.

“Why not appoint a ‘Special Council’ to investigate? Why throw it all on the Inspector General who has no real authority, can’t charge anybody with any crimes and can only make recommendations?”

A Special Counsel needs an appointment and takes months to begin from scratch.
The DOJ IG Michael Horowitz is in well deep and uncovering plenty. The DOJ IG has had a US Attorney to assist with indictment powers, for months. IG can’t.

The US Attorney is John Huber. Remember, that name. You’ll be hearing it plenty in the coming months.

Last year Sessions claimed he didn’t see any cause for investigating Hillary emails, Huma, Weiner and the rest as there was no obvious wrongdoing. WHAT?!?!

Thousands of classified emails and subpoenaed documents in the hands of Huma and sex offender Weiner in a private residence in Chappaqua and that’s just fine? Since when?

Bitbleach destruction of evidence was fine with Sessions, too. Nothing to see here. Get him new Wal Mart $38 glasses.

Kind of cute, saying Session has recused himself of all matters Russia related. Session, should stand up and say, this is about spying on a US presidential candidate, an I am in charge.

Even though it's not about Russia, Sessions is still recused because it's about the campaign.

The Washington Examiner doesn't want you to know, or doesn't themselves know how extensive the Jeff Sessions recusal is.

“Rosenstein in charge of investigating Rosenstein and friends? Hilarious.”

Read the article. It’s not Rod. It’s added to the work of the DOJ IG and by extension the US Attorney John Huber.

More likely, there will be additional prosecutors added to that team overseen by the Hon. AG Jeff Sessions.

Are our FRiends here starting to get the picture?

What, exactly, would be a GOOD reason for the DOJ/FBI to infiltrate the presidential campaign of the opposition party during an election?

We should already be running out of lamp posts from which to hang these corrupt, deep state bastards...

I remember reading both of those documents in the days of yore.

How much progress has been made to date?

“This was done Sunday to avoid a Monday demand of a special council. Nothing else. ....Amounts to nothing.”

In the words of President Trump, “WRONG!”

Oh goody. Another “investigation” that will go on for at least a year and result in the release of a report that gets delayed another 6 to 12 months on top of that. How come the IG doesn’t already know all this stuff? Almost everyone has said that the NYT and WaPo articles fessing up to the spy were motivated by the imminent release of the IG’s report. But now we need an investigation again? Color me so highly skeptical that my skepticism reaches the Outer Limits.

Last time I checked Beauregard was the AG, not this putz. I think he just overstepped his authority. This whole investigation has nothing to do with Russia and the recusal of Ag.

Was Huber appointed by Reagan or Obama?

The fact that Rod jumped on this so quick, tells you he is trying to get ahead of things, and do it his way, to minimize any potential damage and delay things.

I'm with you.. kind of sad that far too many still can't see what YOUR EYES SEE... and SOONER rather than later.

Brilliant move by Rosenstein—for delay and self preservation. Quick takeaways:

1. Well, I guess that means there was no super secret Huber-Q investigation already in progress, with sealed indictments and gitmo prepared, eh?

2. Rosenstein made it dissappear for a year, to head off a new Special Counsel. The one Congress has been beating the drumbs for. Another fu to Congress.

3. Sessions IS NOT recused from this, unless he allows Rosenstein to be his master. Oh wait...forgot.

4. Rosensessions remains fireproof.

“Last time I checked Beauregard was the AG, not this putz.”

Sessions never has been the acting AG, but a figurehead. RR always has been the boss.

Donald J Trump will be 72 years old in 15 days and he’s kicking ass.

Just an aside from the subject of this thread, but since you mentioned DJT's birthday, he is the third president to have been born in 1946, and they were all born within three months of each other:

Donald Trump - June 14, 1946

George W. Bush - July 6, 1946

Bill Clinton - August 19, 1946

Quite a coincidence, and I don't know that any other year and such a short time in history produced so many presidents.
