The Trump administration is set to announce a new regulation Friday afternoon that will prohibit abortion providers, as well as organizations that refer women to those providers, from accessing Title X family planning funds, the New York Times reports.
The policy represents a return to a similar Reagan-era rule that required organizations that received federal family planning dollars to maintain a physical separation and separate personnel dividing their abortion centers from other services.
Critics allege the Trump administrations rule is actually more burdensome than its predecessor because it targets organizations that refer women seeking abortions to providers, as well as those groups that actually provide the procedure.
Dawn Laguens, the executive vice president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, described the policy as outrageous and dangerous.
The rule, she said in a Thursday statement, is designed to make it impossible for millions of patients to get birth control or preventive care from reproductive health care providers like Planned Parenthood. This is designed to force doctors and nurses to lie to their patients. It would have devastating consequences across this country.
Marjorie Dannenfelser, the president of the pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List, thanked Trump and said his decision would energize conservatives ahead of the 2018 midterm elections.
We thank President Trump for taking action to disentangle taxpayers from the abortion business, Dannenfelser said.
Trump has shown decisive leadership, delivering on a key promise to pro-life voters who worked so hard to elect him.
Like the Reagan-era restriction, which was tied up in the courts and eventually rescinded under president Bill Clinton, the move is likely to invite legal challenges from Planned Parenthood and other groups.
Trump targeted Planned Parenthood in April of last year, signing legislation that nullified an Obama-era rule barring state and local governments from withholding federal funding from organizations that provide certain reproductive health services regardless of whether they also provide abortions.
President Trump is keeping the faith with pro-lifers, and as long as he continues to do so, pro-lifers will give money, time, and energy to getting him a second term.
And the Hits just keep on coming!
Law suit for BOR violations in 3....2..... Yeah, I’m aware it’s not actually a “right”. Others, not so much. And, yes, I know, back alleys, coat hangars, blah, blah, blah.
Along with the leftists judges, to be sure.
This action likely won't make it to the end of the workday.
It’s all about the optics.....
Mostly DemocRATS and the Mainstream Media.
Good. The dems forced us to pay for abortion, sexchange operations and euthanasia. Dems must never get back in power.
As far as I’m concerned, if a woman wants to “choose” to use a back alley or have a coat hangar abortion and dies because of it ... good. One less murderer walking the earth.
You can get birth control and family planning, but no killing babies here.
I’m good with that.
They would have us believe it is our inalienable god-given right to murder our own unborn children.
Some “conservatives” (FU, Jeb!) also think it’s Godly to starve the weakest members of our society to death.
Weak? Physically or mentally. I got some ideas.
People still have a choice. You can choose to abstain from sex, you can choose to use birth control, but if you decide to have sex and conception occurs it is no longer a choice, it’s a responsibility.
Legislating the avoidance of the responsibility for your actions is wrong.
Jeb! and his brother are accessories to Mike Schiavo’s murder of his wife.
Mike gave cash to Judge Greer, who ruled in his favor.
The Cowards Bush talked big and did nothing.
(I never accepted freepers telling me, “They did all they could for her”).
Anyone can order RU 486 online....no questions asked...not that that’s a good thing.............no need for PP.....
PP is a commercial corporate operation wrapped in a political blanket to keep the peasants on the liberal reservation.
Public opinion is changing quickly as real science has now entered the debate.
Cue Flounder...OH BOYYYYY...THIS IS GRRRRREAT!
How lovely. What good news for the unborn. PP will now have to figure out if it is in the family planning or in the abortion business.
Go Trump.
Agree. Women have lots of choices before they want an abortion. They want a correction of all their bad choices.
