Amazon reacts to Seattle head tax and ‘hostile’ rhetoric

Hours after the Seattle City Council passed a head tax on the city’s largest businesses Monday, Amazon issued a statement in response.

The online shopping giant is grateful that the city amended its head tax proposal to a lesser amount, but notes that it is wary of city leaders’ attitudes toward business.

Amazon’s statement is attributed to Vice President Drew Herdener:

"We are disappointed by today’s city council decision to introduce a tax on jobs. While we have resumed construction planning for Block 18, we remain very apprehensive about the future created by the council’s hostile approach and rhetoric toward larger businesses, which forces us to question our growth here. City of Seattle revenues have grown dramatically from $2.8 billion in 2010 to $4.2 billion in 2017, and they will be even higher in 2018. This revenue increase far outpaces the Seattle population increase over the same time period. The city does not have a revenue problem — it has a spending efficiency problem. We are highly uncertain whether the city council’s anti-business positions or its spending inefficiency will change for the better."

As the council was debating the head tax over the past month, Amazon halted construction on its expanding headquarters in South Lake Union.

Leftists are so “THICK!”

They support an ideology that has cost over 100 million lives, and impacted hundreds of million more.

They ignore the need for a strong military despite the times in history when we have been forced to use our armed forces to protect our interests at home or internationally.

They come up with hair-brained anti-Capitalist legislation even though Communist China adopted a Capitalist economic system and was literally catapulted by it into the 21st Century.

Now this stupid head tax...

Liberals need Conservatives to bail them out again and again.

Then they go back to planning more laws that they will need to be rescued from.

Amazon should be speaking with its feet, not through its rectum.

That’s the problem with liberalism. Eventually, even you become “somebody else’s money”. And then it gets real.

They’re all for “redistribution” until it’s THEIR stuff being “redistributed.”

Seattle could become like Detroit - a core city hollowed out as businesses depart for the suburbs.

Congratulations, Seattle. You just sh!t in your own bed.

I predict: we will see the first major business announce plans to relocate within six months. It’ll be a domino effect after that.

Hah. They’re “wary,” are they? Sounds like someone’s run out of chickens to feed the crocodile.

Another slice of schadenfreude pie, please.

Looks like these morons will be learning the first maxim of capitalism the hard way: money goes where it is well treated and leaves where it is not.

There is a corollary to that: bad money drives away good money.

If someone really wanted to manage the ‘problem’ correctly....you would come upon the homeless crowd and assess their potential to return to work. You would spend the amount necessary on the work-crowd. The remainder...probably 80-percent...you would ship off to the cheapest location possible (outside of city limits). In this case, I’d ship them off a hundred miles east to Moses Lake, and dump them onto something that I’d call a homeless reservation (a two-star campground), and mandate this is their ‘tribal land’ and they need to stay there.

Keeping them in Seattle means you are overpaying by 300-percent the amount you need for basic living.

The left really does excel at destroying everything it touches. Jobs, morality, people.

Liberalism for you but not for me. The bunch of leftists that run Amazon suddenly become capitalists when they are the ones being taxed.

Yes, if we just get the right people, communism will work.

You knew that Seattle was a liberal insane asylum. Did you expect them to treat business fairly? No. They want government to own all the means of production, and resent it when they don’t, and tax the hell out of it.

>>The bums move to the towns with the best benefits.<<

And citizens who were self-sufficient but at lower levels just give up and accept that they will henceforth live on the state from now on. It’s a better deal.
