Can any locals explain Blackenships' popularity?

What about Blankenships' past is controversial (real or politically manufactured)?

The GOP should get on board with President Trump’s agenda.

The establishment doesn’t seem to want Blankenship any more than they wanted Moore.

Will the brass give away another Republican seat to prove they can do it?

A.G. Morrisey seems like a very reasonable alternative to the Blankenship guy based on WV television advertising which reaches the SW PA market.

Blankenship is a mass murderer. Even if they started building snowmen in the hot stinky bad place, the only seat I would vote for him would be the electric chair. Or to put in even more extreme language, if he gets the nom I will support the Dimocrat, whoever they nominate. Yes, he is that vile.

Coal baron who stands accused (and convicted) of facilitating conditions that caused miners' deaths. Sounds like a great candidate to run in coal country.

People, please see past this spoiler. Roy Moore situation redux.

Does West VA have an open primary? Why can’t the Republican Party decide on one candidate to go against someone who most likely cannot win the general election? What a worthless party... sometimes worse than worthless.

This is a very bad thing because despite all that we have dealt with respect to corrupt politics, it could actually be worse. This candidate represents that “worse.”

Sure, he’s playing “nice” right now, but nice men do not cut corners that get people killed. He cannot even run his own business without ending up in jail, there is no way, no how, that he should be given the public trust.

Please, West Virginia, do not let this candidate get past the primary.

Splitting an anti- vote in a primary isn’t too smart, either. Almost assures the target’s winning.

Anyone know whether state law allows Democrats to hijack the Republican primary by voting for the weaker candidate?

A significant percentage of registered Republican voters will reliably vote for the craziest person in any race.

In an interview with Roll Call last week, Blankenship said his campaign ad was not racist because in the ad “there’s no mention of a race.”

“There’s no race. Races are Negro, white caucasian, Hispanic, Asian. There’s no mention of a race. I’ve never used a race word,” Blankenship said to Roll Call.

This guy is obviously a Democrat plant.
