The Trump administration will require 57,000 Honduran people to return to their home country, after having lived in the U.S. with protected status since a 1999 hurricane, according to a report Friday morning.

Approximately 300,000 people have been approved for TPS since Congress created the program in 1990. Hondurans are the second-largest national group of people who benefit from TPS.

Hondurans were permitted to move to the U.S. under the program after Hurricane Mitch destroyed parts of the country in 1999.

I believe we still have Americans living in government trailer parks from our hurricanes in the past, American citizens who lost their homes and still have not gotten new homes here.

Temporary protected status

Temporary protected status is a temporary immigration status to the United States, granted to eligible nationals of designated countries. In 1990, as part of the Immigration Act of 1990, P.L. 101-649, Congress established a procedure by which the Attorney General may provide TPS to immigrants in the United States who are temporarily unable to safely return to their home country because of ongoing armed conflict, an environmental disaster, or other extraordinary and temporary conditions.

the law is being enforced.

Imagine that, a president who believes Temporary Protected Status should actually mean temporary.

There are reports that...As of August 2017, nearly two-thirds of Honduran TPS holders had been in the United States for at years, and they had about 53,000 children who were born in the United States.

But lets recall that in November, chief of staff John Kelly pressured Elaine Duke, who was then the acting DHS secretary, to end TPS for Honduras. ....’Instead’, she declined to make a decision, ‘triggering an automatic six-month’ extension.

What’s stunning is these Hondurans and others have had ‘years’ to change their ‘temporary’ status, apply otherwise and have not done so. Rather one President after another has simply ‘extended’ their protective status year after year...

So here again they’re being given time to get their things together to go home and they are saying ‘we won’t leave’...

I can see them in the streets already!

Look at the recent Hondurans with the caravan and those who assisted them.....I guarantee that these people all will be in the streets along with Soros’s dial up students and gangs to fight this.

Instead, the administration announced Hondurans would be given a six-month extension of the Jan. 5, 2018, expiration date as it decides the fate of the program.

whoops, at least being enforced is talked about.

Notice the slant of the article in not explaining TPS. Using “protected status”.

Typical South American attitude. Hurricane messed up their town so the solution is to move to the United States.

That is the difference between the mañana culture and Anglo culture.

Galveston was devastated by a hurricane 1900, wiped off the map. And yet Anglo people rebuilt it and it thrives today. Same with San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake, or the Chicago fire of 1871. Americans didn't say, "I guess we will just move to Canada".

Something is wrong with the culture and genes of a people with so little pride or love of their homeland that they leave it in ruins rather than roll up their sleeves and fix it. Why would we want these defects in our country?

Yep, our immigration, refugee and asylum laws are probably the most scammed and abused laws on the face of the earth. And the scammers and abusers are in our streets protesting.

I don't understand why the government (we) are expected to provide NEW “Homes” for people in Hurricanes paths etc. who have already been given NEW suitable accommodations. Further why did they not take out Insurance to begin with.....and if not affordable should have been a heads up they couldn't afford where they picked. They may not 'like' trailer housing but should be like those in Japan, grateful for the provisions they got.

Will they appear on HGTV’s Beachfront Bargain Hunt?

Lots of Americans going there to retire, so what’s the problem?

Well their countries are as they are because of that mindset.....take what you think you want is standard for their cultures. They have no ambition to change their countries.....it's just easier to cross borders and get here.

Further I'm so very sick of the ingratitude.....their protests only cause me further disgust with the people who believe they have rights my own family doesn't get here! So Boo- Hoo I really don't care about these people any longer nor their stories.
