The strip is not at all walkable
I love the weather
Any decent restaurant is crazy expensive, as are all non-gambling activities
I was surprised how often I smelled weed.
I want to see the Vegas Knights win the Stanley Cup
I always enjoyed Vegas when I went back in the 90s.
Went a few years ago, hated every minute of it, and I vowed never to go back.
I agree. Walking on the strip was impossible, and almost everything not inside the most expensive casinos and hotels was cheap and filthy dirty.
The cruise industry is doing its part to RIP OFF travelers too. Nickel and dime-ing everyone at every turn. Greed is all that’s left in the world of sin.
I remember Vegas as a place with cheap food (meant to keep you in the Casino gambling), free parking, good shows cheap and great ones at a price. I’m not a city person, so it wasn’t high on my list...but I could understand it.
Went a couple of years ago to show it to an exchange student. Meals were expensive, parking expensive, good shows expensive, and very crowded (so SOMEONE must like it). Me? I liked it better when the Mob ran Vegas.
We stay at the Wynn or the Encore when we go to Vegas. You can get good deals if you subscribe to their internet site and deals. We figured that the extra $$$ was worth it, because we enjoyed our vacation.
You’re right in saying that the strip is not at all walkable. I resorted to keeping my phone to my ear so the barkers would stop harassing us. Even with my woman, the porn peddlers go pushing their advertisements your way.
Pay the extra and enjoy a clean, peaceful hotel.
Oh, yes. Recently they charged for parking. They were one of the later hotels to do that.
Capo's Ristorante & Speakeasy over on West Sahara Ave. also has good Italian food.
Tacos El Gordo on Charleston Blvd. is a Tijuana-based taqueria that specializes in soft tacos. At meal times, it is usually very crowded, mostly with Mexican-Americans. If it's too crowded, you can go to Macayo's Mexican restaurant across the street, which is said to be popular with local Mormons.
If you want plain old American food, Blueberry Hill on Decatur, over on the west side, is an old-fashioned coffee shop that offers a wide variety of American dishes. They have one or two other locations in Las Vegas. And if you find yourself on the once glamorous but now seedy Fremont Street mall, you can find tasty hot dogs at Coney Island Hot Dogs, a Detroit-based eatery.
Ever been sand-blasted along the strip?
I want them to crush those sharks but I thought it would be easier.
The strip is not at all walkable
You are 100% correct on that. I was in Vegas in 1989, and walked up and down the strip with ease. I visited it many times between 1989 and 1992 (I was in the Navy in San Diego, we went to NAS Fallon every few months, and Vegas was halfway). I stayed at the Excalibur the month it opened (1990), for the low price of $35.00 a night (government rate). I went back in the late 1990’s/early 2000’s (company-wide meetings), and they had put up all those crosswalks over the strip, etc. It was nuts. I got married there in 2001, and have been back once since (2015). It’s fun, for a few days, but walking the strip is nuts.
It was a few years ago, but I have walked the strip from the airport to Circus Circus. It was odd having to cross the street to continue walking the same direction.
