Fewer people are visiting Las Vegas. One insider thinks hotel resort and parking fees are to blame

Daily resort fees and parking charges are rising and spreading in Las Vegas, adding as much as $45 a day to visitors' hotel bills. The publisher of Las Vegas Advisor blames the extra charges for a recent decline in the number of visitors.

"Everyone hates resort fees, but the parking [fee] is even worse," said Anthony Curtis of Las Vegas Advisor. "Everyone wants some kind of comp, [and] the most basic comp is free parking. That was the one comp that everyone got."

The Advisor, a decades-old, monthly newsletter highlighting what's new in Vegas and featuring deals for visitors, provides lists of parking costs and resort fees across southern Nevada.

Yes, it takes us a leisurely 5 hours; and Sunset Station is on our side of the Vegas Valley.

Paying for self parking is Las Vegas sounds absurd to me.

🐋 ? No, but we did toss a lot away at one point and "earned" our way up the players club system. We still use the players card when we go and they keep offering us rooms. Reno, Tahoe and Vegas. Guess they hope we'll pony up some 💰💰💰. Retired now and income is WAY less. 🙀

The fact that the casino owners looked into a train from LA several times and decided not to go ahead with it was a big red flag that should have killed the train to nowhere at the outset.

I think in general as the Trump economy soars we will see costs rise in some areas as more people can now afford to go; Supply and Demand.

I always enjoyed Vegas when I went back in the 90s.

The days of $4.00 steak dinners and lunch buffets at casinos, coupon books, free chips and free parking. It now seems like a galaxy far, far away.

It’s not Greed. Have we not been taught that “Greed is good.” It is all a result of the Harvard Business School’s teaching. “Sell anything. Sell everything. Sell it now. Maximize profit now. Ignore the future. Oh! and in case I didn’t say it, ignore the future.”

Vegas started out giving free steak dinners to gamblers and then discovered they could over charge for buffets and other such things because when one wants to throw one’s money away, one will not let anything get in the way - they are now just seeing how far they can push the envelope.

Went last summer to see The Who at Ceasars. Only because Mrs rktman had a platinum level players card did it NOT cost us to park in valet. Valet was like $25/day and self parking was like $10/day on the strip. Outside of the strip might have been free.

We stay at the Wynn or the Encore when we go to Vegas. You can get good deals if you subscribe to their internet site and deals. We figured that the extra $$$ was worth it, because we enjoyed our vacation.

You’re right in saying that the strip is not at all walkable. I resorted to keeping my phone to my ear so the barkers would stop harassing us. Even with my woman, the porn peddlers go pushing their advertisements your way.

Pay the extra and enjoy a clean, peaceful hotel.

Oh, yes. Recently they charged for parking. They were one of the later hotels to do that.

Fewer people are visiting Las Vegas. One insider thinks hotel resort and parking fees are to blame,

One insider might be an idiot. It isn't a small leap of logic to consider a sniper killing people might have caused people to stay home.
