The Hill to end attendance at WHCA dinner without 'major reforms'
The Hill ^ | May 1, 2018 | Joe Concha

The Hill said Tuesday it is pulling out of future White House Correspondents' dinners without “major reforms” to the event following the controversy that erupted over comedian Michelle Wolf’s performance at this year’s dinner on Saturday.

“The Hill, which has participated in the White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) dinner for many years, does not plan at this time to participate in the event moving forward,” James Finkelstein, The Hill’s chairman, wrote in a letter dated Tuesday to Steven Thomma, executive director of the White House Correspondents’ Association.

“In short, there's simply no reason for us to participate in something that casts our profession in a poor light. Major changes are needed to the annual event,” the letter states.

Finkelstein’s letter criticized Wolf’s performance as “out of line” and said that The Hill hoped the dinner could get “back to talking about the importance of the Fourth Estate without the kind of ugly sideshow that completely overshadowed the event this year.”

Now, I hope the press passes at the White House are given serious review.

Perhaps a lottery or a Dutch Auction for the seats would be helpful.

Send the proceeds to reduce the national debt or fund the border wall. /humor

This elevates The Hill’s overall credibility in my estimation.

At least one media source does not toe the left-stream media line.

It does need major reforms. It needs its journalists and their guests to start acting classy, like in the old days. IIRC, it started going bad during the Dubya years.

wouldn’t it be funny, if more news organizations pull out, and all that are remaining are the bottom feeders???? In which case, the dinner will be a complete joke, moreson than it has become.

And bye bye to the scholarships and other positive things this organization claims to be doing.

And all because they had to get their digs in at Trump, all because they had to bend over backwards to prove that they are liberal, all because they wanted the praise from Comedy Central and the liberal late night hosts.

In short, they overreached and even a number of liberal media types called this dinner a train wreck.

The Corps Despondence Association is one member fewer.
It’s a start.

Woke up thinking this morning of Redd Skelton, about Will Rodgers, about Bob Hope. Such suitable comedians.

Suppose nobody wants to go to this next year?

Suppose nobody from the White House is there, and only liberal media hacks are there?

that was a pretty strong statement from The Hill, saying how distressing the “personal animus” was.

I heard some liberal yakkers saying, well, she has freedom of speech and all that. Such points miss the entire point of why people are upset.

I heard some other liberal yakkers say, Trump has said such terrible things about people, including many women, and that you have to be able to take what you dish out. So then, there is to be no sense of decency, because you feel the need to have a pissing contest, to go tit for tat with Trump and his people??

This is the purpose of the craft of journalism which is supposedly celebrated at events such as this dinner? All decorum goes out the window, because Trump said “pussy” in a vulgar context, because “he started it”?????

If these so-called journalists just quoted the entire sentence using the vulgar word, it would remind everyone of Harvey Weinstein, etc. DJT said something like...when you are a celebrity, they let you do anything, they let you grab... He never said that HE did it.

Just cancel the stupid thing.

Who cares about it anyway, other than the socalled “media”.

This is not rocket science. Decertify the organization that currently manages the WHCD. The White House, at least during DJT’s presidency, will manage the event and make all decisions including the guest list and the evening’s entertainment. I recommend Dennis Miller for MC.

It’s their party, at the Washington Hilton, so the correspondents are free to do whatever they want to.

What Trump should do is order that no administration officials attend.

good for The Hill!

this is the beginning of the end for the WHCD ...

I said that a few days ago and looks like I’m correct.

i said that by the time Trump leaves office after 8 years of of not attending, he’ll have killed this self-back-patting circle jerk by the leftist fake stream media deader than a Dodo bird ...

Trump does not need to do anything except sit back with the rest of us and watch them either reform or continue to self destruct.

The Hill is begging for a little less stridency in the official media positions as opposed to everything Republican. They don’t appreciate having their bias laid bare.

It used to be fun. They ruined it by succumbing to their hatred of President Trump.
