No one who served needs to embellish. I went Air Force ROTC, thinking I’d get to flight school, but flunked the flight physical! USAF still found me useful behind a desk, though. When people ask me what I did during the Vietnam War, I tell them I pushed paper. Why lie? I didn’t try to get out of serving and would have gone in harm’s way if they’d let me. DoD had other plans. I’m not embarrassed.
He's referring to a character on "The Red Green Show" a very funny comedy series from Canadian TV.IIRC there are episode of youtube...or there *once* were,at least.
The Hap character was an outrageous serial liar on a Canadian comedy called Red Green.
He would show up in a skit every so often. Played by Gordon Pinsett.
Paper pushers make bombs show up where they're needed ...
They both deserve each other. They are BOTH LIARS.
True...
I think he once said “I reported the Hindenburg crashing when I time traveled”.
That’s because it was very hush hush...
Was Piper’s first name “Pied” by any chance?
My Dad was an Army clerk after WWII and mostly worked in the Pentagon filing papers, typing, etc. He was proud of his two years of service and never made up any stories to embellish his record or make it sound more exciting.
My uncle fought at the Battle of the Bulge and never even talked about it afterwards. I found out the details from my Mom after he passed.
My grandfather was in WWI and none of us knew anything about it until recently. We’re just now finding out some details in researching the family genealogy.
I saw the second shooter at the grassy knoll in Dallas.
I actually saw that movie at the theater!
Media-types have been telling brazen lies for a LOOOOOOOONG time, apparently.
As I said, I spent my Air Force years pushing paper. My Dad was in the infantry in WWII, a decorated veteran of the New Guinea campaign. He would have been very disappointed if I had avoided military service, but he didn’t mind that I ended up doing something safe. He saw enough blood for both of us.
There’s a good episode of Last Man Standing, where Hector Elizondo’s character was a paper pusher in Viet Nam.
He was now using his paper pushing expertise to help other vets get their benefits
The Red Green show. One of the funniest shows ever. Catch it on you tube.
I had an uncle who served in an AA Artillery unit in Europe in WWII. He was very proud of his service. No need to lie about it.
Absolutely.
I don’t care if you’re a common foot-soldier with the lowest rank. It’s as honorable as any other service. We need folks in all positions.
Service = Respect from me
If the women don’t find you handsome they should at least find you handy. LOL
