Making Liberals Take Their Own Medicine

They say doctors make the worst patients. Seems they have no problem diagnosing others and proscribing solutions, but fall short when it comes to following the advice they dispense. Liberal pundits suffer from the same problem – they love diagnosing others but don’t like it when it comes time to take their own medicine.

Joy Reid is the latest liberal to be exposed as not living up the standards she insists other achieve. The MSNBC personality is quick to accuse anyone who doesn’t share her progressive views of being a racist, a sexist, a homophobe, an Islamophobe – you name the liberal slur and she’s undoubtedly accused someone of being it, ususally in the name of tolerance.

Reid, it turns out, has a past that conflicts with her “progressive” present.

In December it was discovered that Reid had written “a dozen blog posts in 2007, 2008, and 2009 that contained homophobic conspiracies and anti-gay jokes.”

Reid “apologized” the next day, saying, “At no time have I intentionally sought to demean or harm the LGBT community, which includes people whom I deeply love.” She concluded, ironically, “My goal, in my ham-handed way, was to call out potential hypocrisy.”

Her statement was immediately accepted by her fellow progressives and all was forgiven because liberals are quick to forgive or dismiss perceived transgressions of other liberals, a courtesy never extended to conservatives.

But Reid’s history was still out there, undiscovered and ripe for mining.

Reid, naturally, joined in every hive-minded crusade of the left offered up. Want to silence conservatives on campus? She’s game. Want to rip down statues of long dead people who don’t live up to modern standards of morality? She’s in.

While Democrats sought to tear down and rewrite the nation’s past, Reid must’ve been thinking she’d successfully done the same to hers. She was wrong. That past of hers that was ripe for mining? Seems someone was digging.

On Monday they hit something.

More “homophobic” blog posts allegedly written by Reid were discovered and reported by Mediaite, a liberal media blog.

Reid issued another statement, this time claiming her old blog must’ve been hacked by right-wingers trying to harm her career. “In December I learned that an unknown, external party accessed and manipulated material from my now-defunct blog, The Reid Report, to include offensive and hateful references that are fabricated and run counter to my personal beliefs and ideology,” Reid claimed.

But the newly discovered blog posts weren’t from an active blog that could be hacked, even by Russians. They were from the Wayback Machine, a website that archives webpages that are long gone. That makes it incredibly difficult, if not impossible, to change the content of those pages. It’s be like hacking a polaroid from the 1970s.

To add to Reid’s misery, the company that runs the Wayback Machine said, “When we reviewed the archives, we found nothing to indicate tampering or hacking of the Wayback Machine version.”

In other words, Reid’s claims of an “external party” changing her blog has as much supporting evidence as Anthony Weiner’s claim that his Twitter account had been hacked when he was exposed for, well, exposing himself.

The funny thing is what Reid wrote in the mid-2000s was not particularly controversial, especially for the time. She was espousing what was essentially the positions held by the majority of Democrats, including then-Senators Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, though in cruder terms.

But, thanks to progressives like Reid who seek to purge anyone not meeting the left’s current standards of acceptability, everything from the past now must be viewed through the lens of the present. Being “woke” now isn’t all that matters, you must always have been “woke” or done a suitable mea culpa and beg for forgiveness for ever having less than pure thoughts.

Reid’s window for apology was already opened in December when she confessed to her first round of blog posts. She didn’t do a full confession at the time, and that window closed. Now she’s facing a backlash.

The gay rights group PFLAG was set to give Reid their “Straight for Equality in Media award,” but now they’ve rescinded it.

Reid, who loves to hold others to the left’s insane standards of thought purity is finding herself on the receiving end of a wrath she made a career gleefully unleashing on others.

I’m not someone who likes to see someone lose their job over things they’ve said that are now deemed “unacceptable” by people who like to deem things from the past unacceptable. But in this case, I have no sympathy.

Progressives like Reid are quick to judge, quick to demand heads of conservatives roll for much more minor offenses. These are their rules, they have been forcing everyone else to live up to them and ruining lives, unapologetically, in the process. To hell with them. It’s time they take a dose of their own medicine. Joy Reid should resign or be fired.

The alternative is for liberals to leave everyone else alone, and we all know they aren’t about to do that. So, open wide, Joy, it’s medicine time.

“Liberalism” is cynicism. Cynicism towards society - and, concomitant to that, naiveté towards government.

From Theodore Roosevelt's 1910 speech at the Sarbonne:

There is no more unhealthy being, no man less worthy of respect, than he who either really holds, or feigns to hold, an attitude of sneering disbelief toward all that is great and lofty, whether in achievement or in that noble effort which, even if it fails, comes to second achievement. A cynical habit of thought and speech, a readiness to criticise work which the critic himself never tries to perform, an intellectual aloofness which will not accept contact with life's realities - all these are marks, not as the possessor would fain to think, of superiority but of weakness. They mark the men unfit to bear their part painfully in the stern strife of living, who seek, in the affection of contempt for the achievements of others, to hide from others and from themselves in their own weakness. The second paragraph is oft quoted. The first, even more important in this context, not so much.

Liberals gravitate to jobs and careers where they do not actually have to do anything. Media, law, entertainment and academica are the four best examples.
