Was the Starbucks Incident a Setup?

I thought about it, and I realized that it wasn't so long ago that such minor travesties and often much, much worse were things black people lived through every day.

I thought about it, and I realized that it wasn't so long ago that such minor travesties and often much, much worse were things black people lived through every day. While it was never something I ever had to worry about in my life, millions of minorities did have to worry about things like that.

That being said, I think what happened at the Starbucks in Philly doesn't pass the sniff test. Two black men went in, sat down, and apparently went unnoticed for a period of time until one got up and asked to use the restroom. When told it was only for customers, he declined the opportunity to purchase something and returned to his associate at their table. After another unspecified period of time elapsed, the manager, a woman named Holly, asked them to either purchase something or leave. They said they were waiting for someone, did not want to buy anything, and wouldn't leave. More time passed, the option was again proffered, and the double-refusal was again the response. That's when Holly called "the man."

The "screws" arrived and made the same offer as Holly, three times. And just as many times, it was refused. As they were slipping on the cuffs to take them to the "big house," the ever-elusive "friend" magically appeared. You get the picture: it was a setup. Why wouldn't the "friend" just buy a cup of Joe so they could all sit down and chant, "No justice, no peace"? How did he already know not to? How did he know to soldier on for the cause

Does anyone know how much time had elapsed between when the two “gentlemen” sat down and their “friend” appeared.

Some locations lock the doors.

And some locations post a sign "Restroom for Customers Only." However, they may let in anyone who first asks them.

I have no problem with buying a very small item (e.g. a cookie) to elevate myself to "customer" status if need be.

My son and daughter in law, now in their 30’s, used to play a game in their early 20’s called, “We’re not leaving.”

They would sit in a fairly crowded bar and not order anything and see how long it would take to get kicked out. Naturally, they were already pretty plastered by the time they arrived.

Many places do that to prevent junkies using the restroom for drug use.

Don’t make it something it isn’t. Take two victims with paper-thin skin, add one overreacting manager, stir in the race card, and voila’. No need for conspiracy.

1st: The author calls this a "minor travesty," yet explains in considerable detail how the Manager - and the Police - made repeated attempts to amicably resolve the situation, so I think that it's incorrect to refer to this as even only a "minor" travesty, or if it was a travesty, then one perpetrated by the two Black gentlemen themselves.

2nd: There are not "millions of minorities" in the U.S. (unless you subdivide and sub-subdivide groups, e.g.: "bisexual Jewish-Alaskan-Indian-Hispanics").

“Oops, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Starbucks in a poor neighborhood.”

They are in cities——catering to students and tourists and street people-—lots of the restrooms are locked, and should be.

I believe there was a sign in clear view at this place.

Bottom line, I haven’t bought coffee at a Starbuck’s in probably 8 years. I used to every day. I figure I’ve saved in that time a hefty amount. I used the savings to buy a Nezpresso coffee machine, a Technivorn and a passive gravity filter coffee maker. I buy my beans green and roast them myself. Did realize how crappy Starbucks was...

Exactly! What the heck is this? As a White I could wait for a little while but soon I’d have to pay or go. What this is is another example of TNB being blamed on racism and now will be just another example of black privilege and another reason nobody wants blacks in their businesses.

Dear blak pepo: Learn the term ‘Projection’.

I bet you that when the manager said you need to buy something, these guys said something that rattled her, who knows.

The whole thing seems weird, I mean weird weird.

The you have a teacher at Fresno? Call Barbara Bush a racist and glad she’s dead, and she doesn’t violate any ethics agreement.

The supposed time line of the events don’t show a long period of time during the event.

http://www.phillyvoice.com/philadelphia-starbucks-rashon-nelson-donte-robinson-black-men-arrested/

• 4:35 p.m. - Nelson and Robinson arrive at the Starbucks 10 minutes early for
a business meeting. Nelson immediately asks to use the restroom but is told its
only for paying customers. He sits down with Robinson and the manager comes
over to ask if they want anything, they explain they’re fine and are just waiting
for their friend.

• 4:37 p.m. - Police are called.

•4:41 p.m. - Officers arrive.

Me neither. But to hear them describe it, they seemed to enjoy it at the time. Those two have really grown up, though. You’d never guess they were a bit unconventional back in the day.

My question about the "setup" theory is that the person they were meeting is apparently a known local real estate investor named Andrew Yaffe, president of American Investment Partners, LP and Ay Industries.

Why would he be involved in a race-baiting scam, when he's been praised as a young leader in Jewish philanthropy?

The Jack Goldenberg Young Leadership Award was presented to Andrew Yaffe. Yaffe is the founder and president of AY Industries, a Philadelphia-based real estate development, investment and management firm. He is an active member of the Jewish Federation’s real estate affinity group and NextGen’s Ben Gurion Society. In the spring of 2017, Yaffe chaired the Inaugural Young Friends Fundraiser for Birthright Israel in partnership with the Jewish Federation.

Yaffe credited his connection to Jewish philanthropy to his upbringing: His grandparents were founding members of the Greater North East Jewish Congregation and active volunteers at what was then Klein JCC, often bringing Yaffe with them.

Could it be that Yaffe really was there to meet two African--Americans trying to get a break in the Philadelphia real estate market?

Chain restaurants don’t operate the same in every city. They adapt to where the store is located. A starbucks in a quiet little town will not be like one in a crime ridden inner city. Just look at some youtubes of fast food restaurants in Detroit. Bulletproof glass seperating workers and customers.

That’s exactly the point of the post. If the restrooms were locked, then they’d ask, if not, he should have just gone.

How about this. Would you bother to call the store, and tell them to settle this discussion on the topic? Are the restrooms locked or not?

Holly should find a lawyer...

If it ever goes to court, Holly(Social Justice Warrior) might be outed as part of the scam too. Warriors are supposed to be willing to let the bus roll over them when needed. Starbucks and BLM needed.
