Donald Trump has gotten the rawest deal in the past 50 years.
This observation comes from over 50 years of listening and observing, in an out of government. A quick trip through time should make that pointand others.
Since 1968, Ive worked for every presidentthats eight except Obama & Trump. Alas, my laborsat least initiallywere at such low levels, there were none lower. After service as an Army intelligence linguist and analyst in support of LBJs questionable geopolitical instincts, I worked as an investigator for the US Civil Service Commission, now OPM, the governments central personnel agency. Working the street during Nixons impeachment process, then the Ford and Carter years, I began to discern how much the media and Hollywood manipulated the political views of the average citizenabout LBJ, Vietnam, Nixon, and Ford, especially.
Important to note, however, is that feds back then were steeped in the vagaries of the Hatch Act, which prohibited us from expressing political views or displaying campaign buttons or bumper stickers, amongst other no-nos. But we could listen.
This is not to suggest every civil servant was pure of heart, but most presented an apolitical public face and acted responsibly in carrying out their duties. This is in stark contrast to the present day, when many civil servants believe their agenda superior to that of the electorate, and they have no hesitation in acting upon it. Think IRS.
The media doted on Jimmy Carter, showing their truer colors only when Reagan-Bush took office, and for twelve years, mockery and disdain reigned in every media cave. Although RR prevailed overwhelmingly in 1984, that did not stop the birthing process of the Alt-Statewhen media, academics, and young Deep Staters, along with Hollywood elites, began to discern what power they might havecollectively.
Through at least the GHWB administration, one rule prevailed: If you were down in the ranks, you simply didnt speak out or participate in protestsor leak. If you were in a senior position, in career service or as a political appointee, you could speak out all you wantedright after you resigned. Criticizing the boss and keeping your pension was not a career plan. Then, civil servants understood their speech rights were limited the day they took the oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitutionand the objectives of the administration in power.
Naturally, media mavens fell in love with Bill Clinton, and at that point in my career, I was meeting with fairly senior FBI officials to improve the efficiency of fingerprint and case processing for clearance purposes. Those with long memories will recall a smallish scandal called Filegate. Daily, the WH alleged the FBI was dawdling with security clearances, and the media dutifully echoed spoon-fed talking points. What many of us knew was that the investigations were completed, but numerous Clinton acolytes were simply not clearable. Anyone surprised?
Think about what that fact means. The FBI of the 1990s clung to what James Comey now ironically calls, A Higher Loyalty. Those women and men were truly loyal to the principles they swore to uphold, and they rolled over for no one. None of them would have skewed investigations for political reasons as Comey, McCabe, Strzok, and Page are purported to have done. There was always the aroma test. If it would stink on the front page of the New York Times, you simply didnt do it. Apparently, the olfactory nerves of the above-named operators became somehow dulled by the methane seeping from their work product.
So invested was the media in a third Clinton term, they went at George W. Bush from the very first hour of his presidential campaign, and after a brief respite around September 11, they continued their attacks to the end of his administration. The Alt State had fully formed. Compare GWBs rough ride, then, to the easy glide given Obama. Think about Donald Trumps tenure thus far. If Reagans relationship with the media was iffy, and George W. Bushs was rocky, Trumps has been cataclysmic. How did that happen?
Before 1980, presidents had to contend with sour-faced journalists out for any negative they could magnifysuch is the nature of the fourth estate. The Alt-State began to coalesce in the Reagan years when daily criticisms were trumpeted via the media and academia, almost as if on cue. By the time GWB came around, the first two camps, strengthened by a powerful CNN, gave oxygen to leakers and thieves of secrets, the now mature Deep Staters hungering for both their pensions and another payday.
Because Trump is Trump, he has earned some of the medias enmity, but no president has ever faced what he faces daily: a phalanx of deceptive, hyper-critical mouthpieces in media, academia, and Deep State USG circles allied against himnot to mention the powerful Progressive/Hollywood elites. And he has a former president camped in the capital city who spends his energies OFA to undermine anything he does. No president has faced such an array of leakers and liars attempting to unseat him any way they can. Oh, the nattering nabobs of negativism! (as Spiro Agnew famously said)
Can anyone imagine CEOs at General Mills, Ford Motor, Starbucks, or Facebook suffering silently while underlings tossed daily verbal hand grenades at them, sought unceasingly to destroy the effectiveness of their efforts, and even, to unseat them?
The Alt State has never been stronger, and it is up to us, the people, to surveil this cabal with clear eyes and listen with our third earthat which discerns the real motives of the power cravers.
Whats truly amazingan accomplishment far from smallis that Trump has managed to neutralize the Alt State. So, for Americans who want secure borders, immigration sense, a respect for the unborn, and a safer world, Donald Trump is the best junkyard dog we could have guarding our homeland.
that which discerns the real motives of the power cravers
It’s all about stealing the country from the citizens by flooding it with foreigners.
Whom God calls, He enables.
But...but...I thought you said Trump wasn’t facing anything that every president in history—excepting Washington’s first term—hadn’t faced.
YOUR ANCESTORS WERE FOREIGNERS ONCE TOO, OR DID YOU FORGET THAT????
Yes he does.
My family has been here since the founding.
YOUR ANCESTORS WERE FOREIGNERS ONCE TOO, OR DID YOU FORGET THAT????
I havent. But mine didnt come here to suck off the tit of a trillion dollar welfare state. Nor did they break the laws of the day to do it.
The same can not be said these days.
In a word, No.
But beyond that, it is now beyond dispute that those of us with long memories now are the only reliable version of history possible; all else is not just suspect, but usually demonstrably false.
So we must all live in our private bubble of reality and ignore the babble.
It's almost an impossible job, but somebody's got to do it...
It is truly a swamp. The left has been planning and working for over 100 years to take down the USA. To see their plans frustrated once again is driving them mad, but it has only strengthened their resolve to succeed. Believe it and recite every day, “Freedom requires eternal vigilance.”
Speak for yourself, genius. I have enough grey matter to know the difference between the now meaningless "foreigners," and criminal animal aliens.
My family moved to the U.S. (legally) into a more rational and clearly healthy society, 63 years ago.
Today, my country of origin is considered one of the most dangerous countries on the continent.
It's an irony the I, a "foreigner" have a firmer grasp on reality than you do. I assume that you are a "native born "citizen."
I never claimed that I was I was a natural born citizen. As a matter of fact I have stated numerous times that I am a Naturalized citizen since June 12, 1967. I was naturalized in Junction City Kansas. We lived in JC and my husband was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. The celebration was two days later at the Eisenhower Center in Abilene KS.
Big Red One.
No mission too difficult no sacrifice too great.
207th MP Co. 1976.
There was a bar in JC called the Last Chance saloon. JC was an interesting place.
Good article, but the author is way too optimistic when he writes “Trump has managed to neutralize the Alt State.”
We thought we had defeated communism in the 90s. It’s back in many more forms than ever and a greater fraction of the populace has bought into its evil charms. Same with the Alt State. It will take a generation to root it completely out and destroy it. I am reminded of what Winston Churchill famously said:
“Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.”
I would, however, adjust Churchill’s quote to “It is a good beginning to the beginning.”
Why must you continually get to the heart of the issue? /sarcoff
The media was never going to like Trump, but nobody else has gone out of his way to alienate the press like the President has. So why the surprise? What's the old expression, don't pick fights with people who buy ink by the barrel?
1) There was no cohesive nation of Tribal Americans with borders or treaties (but which tribes were rife with internecine warfare, scalp hunting, child sacrifice, and other charming customs: they made themselves disunited and weak.)
2) There was no welfare state to entice and indulge the new arrivals.
3) Once a civilized nation was established, immigration became a legal, controlled process.
Illegal aliens are not legal immigrants - period, end of debate.
My ancestors came here legally, endured poverty, and worked honestly for generations to acrue a modest living. They were productive citizens who did not bring a drugging and raping lifestyle with them, and who did not live off governmental welfare.
In other words, white privileged genocidal oppressors.
Let me know when 11 states secede and somebody tries to shoot him. Is the president still playing rounds of golf at Mar a Lago and hosting a state dinner for the president of France? Why yes he is.
