Are Republicans Draining or Filling the Swamp?

On March 9, 2010, Democratic Party speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi said, "We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it." Pelosi's infamous words referred to the 2,300-page Affordable Care Act, now more commonly known as "Obamacare."

Democratic leadership, anticipating voter backlash, rushed to cram their controversial health care bill through Congress before the 2010 midterm election. Democrats were in such a hurry to send the bill to President Barack Obama, they didn't have time to read it.

Obama signed his "legacy bill" on March 23, 2010. Eight months later, Democrats paid a steep price at the polls. The Tea Party shockwave that resulted is the biggest turnover election since the Great Depression. Republicans gained 63 seats in the House of Representatives, six in the Senate, and 680 in state legislative races.

Before the historic 2010 election, the Democrats held a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate and control of the House. Since 2010, Democrats have remained the minority party in the House, and in 2014, they lost control of the Senate. Two years later, voters put Republican Donald Trump in the White House. After witnessing firsthand the Obamacare fiasco, voters elected Trump to "drain the swamp."

The passage of Obamacare was a case study in D.C. swamp culture. First, Democrats crafted the legislation behind closed doors with ample lobbyist input and special-interest involvement. Second, Democrats did not read the bill before voting on it. Third (and most importantly), Democrats passed Obamacare in a hasty and disingenuous manner.

So have Republicans learned from the Obamacare debacle? Is the swamp being drained? Unfortunately, no.

There are two elements to the GOP. The uniparty and the Trumpsters/Freedom Caucus. The two can never get along. It’s kind of like the LP. I could easily become a Libertarian Party member, but I’m not really a fan of the whole drug culture side, although ideologically, I agree with them. The uniparty wants to be seen as “moderate” and “cooperative” while the Dems date rape them on a daily basis. The Constitutionalists have only one friend in DC and that’s President Trump.

For 40 years I heard this same song and dance from “Movement Conservatives”.

How many elections have they won on it?

ZERO.

They did not win the elections on 2010, 2014 and 2016 by running on “Balancing the budget” That is a fake premise being advanced by the authors here to justify their pre-set poltical dogma

American voters all pay lip service to the idea of “balancing the budget” until they see what that actually means and they they run out an elect Democrats to keep the pork flowing.

Bush League Republicans are still committed to the Bush Plan for North Mexico (aka USA).
They hope to obstruct Trump from restoring the rule of law.
They have obstructed US (US citizens) from electing anyone who would side with US and the rule of law for decades.
When their open borders/amnesty candidates lose the primary they help the Democrat win.
They have done this repeatedly.

If Clinton had won, we would know absolutely nothing about Comey/McCabe/Strzok.

Trump may not drain the swamp, but he’s making the residents nervous. If McCabe gets the Martha Stewart treatment, the swamp creatures will be much more careful about how they do business.

Both. Volume of drainage = volume of filling.

I hope and pray the drainage gains momentum, and the swamp level can decrease (as the filling decreases). It’s just not an on/off valve.

The GOP is occupied territory. There are only a few USAians hiding therein. Even if they’re new to DC, DC quickly assimulates them into a trace and delusionary view of reality.

At least half of the GOP is the Swamp.

"There are two elements to the GOP. The uniparty and the Trumpsters/Freedom Caucus"

And the later is made up of about five people, counting the President.

Are Republicans Draining or Filling the Swamp?

It seems like they are trying to do both.

Exactly. When you add up Donald Trump’s effort plus what the Paul Ryan Republicans are doing......The swamp is being drained and filled call at the same time.

BTW how is that caravan of Hondurans/Central Americans doing? Are they near our border? This is what we have working against us. RINOs favor the Brazil-ification of America. They figure they can rule this future mess from their gated communities and elite zip codes where the public schools are great.

As long as we have government, we have a swamp.
