In that case, why I was not audited or mailed a letter? At least mail me a letter “hey max, pay up because of the interest”. Nothing.

I paid them yesterday, just in case.
Didn’t want to chance getting hit with a penalty.

“I always owe at the end of the year”

smart. no point in giving the FedGov a tax free loan ...

It used to be just for that reason, but I have so little trust now that I don’t really trust them to give me anything back. And who knows if I’m the one that will actually receive it? It’s best that I owe them. Keeps it simple. :)

I e-filed last night. It was accepted at 2:24 am today. Was going to use direct payment online until I read the disclaimer and decided I did not want to give the IRS access to my bank account until I notified them in writing to revoke it so I mailed a check with the voucher this morning. I also mailed my state return today.

The people/preparers who are panicking could just take an envelope and stamp and be done with the problem.

The filing system might be broke, but they remembered to debit my account for my taxes due!

Very efficient.

This also holds up the state returns as the Fed. return must be accepted before the state return transmits electronically.

I filed 400 tax returns this season & the other guy in the office probably filed over 400. The state returns (sometimes multiple) are transmitted along with the Fed - at the same time.. They don't need the IRS acceptance to be transmitted..

If you have e-filed & it is being held up or rejected, you have an e-postmark to verify you tried to file before the deadline. You can always send that to the IRS as proof.

Bottom line - don't wit until the last day. Finish up 2 days before the deadline & spend the last 2 days answering questions from your clients - like "did you file an extension for me?"

I filed Dec. 27th for 2016.

Just got into review phase last week.

It is holding up my starting SS retirement. Clowns everywhere in D.C.

They don’t need the IRS acceptance to be transmitted..

“Transmitted” to the software company but not to the IRS. We did about twice that number of all business returns.... mainly farms.

Certified is not even needed if you use priority.

Scans are scans these days. Certified is a waste of money. And Registered is only really for very liquid securities. Hardly anyone uses that any more.

10 min for 4 certified envelopes.

It's a complete waste of money to certify a tax return.

If you want to create a payment record just use your credit card.

Snail mail is the bomb.

Many years ago they sent punch cards out. My dad would always use a razorblade and slice just a bit off the edge of the cards.

The IRS would then have to keypunch a new card to process his return.

Good fun is where you find it.
