Comey Didn't Tell Trump the Infamous Dossier Was Financed By Hillary Clinton

In the fall of 2016 just before the presidential election, then FBI Director James Comey informed Republican candidate Donald Trump they had received "materials" alleging salacious misconduct by the business man. Comey warned the candidate the information could be used as blackmail.

Those "materials" Comey referred to was the now infamous and fake Russian dossier put together by British spy Christopher Steele. Steele was paid for the "opposition research" by the Clinton campaign and the DNC.

When Comey briefed Trump, he knew where the funding for the dossier came from but failed to disclose those facts at the time.

"Did you tell him that the Steele dossier had been financed by his political opponents?" ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos asked in an interview set to air this weekend.

"No. I didn’t," Comey responded.

"But did he have a right to know that?" Stephanopoulos followed up.

"That it had been financed by his political opponents? I don't know the answer to that," Comey said.

As a reminder, it wasn't publicly revealed until well into 2017, after Trump was elected, that the dossier was funded by Team Clinton. Further, Hillary Clinton herself denied multiple times any involvement or connection to the dossier.

Hillary Clinton was unaware of the now-infamous dossier of allegations about Donald Trump and Russia prior to Buzzfeed's publishing of the document earlier this year, a source familiar with the matter has told CNN.

Clinton was disappointed that the research from the document was not made public before she lost the 2016 election, the source said.

The New York Times first reported on Wednesday that Clinton didn't know about the dossier until it was published, citing two associates who discussed the matter with her.

The news comes a day after the law firm representing the Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee acknowledged it helped fund opposition research on President Donald Trump that ultimately resulted in the dossier.

When Clinton got caught funding it and therefore lying about the dossier, she and her team justified the move as "opposition research." During her justification, she issued a number of additional falsehoods.

Not surprisingly, Clinton misrepresented the original hiring of Fusion GPS by a Republican donor. That donor was Peter Singer, who hired the firm on behalf of the Washington Free Beacon to do research on all of the GOP candidates during the primary, including Trump. Fusion GPS did not employ Christopher Steele, a British spy, to do any of this work. When the Clinton campaign hired Fusion GPS after Trump won, Steele was hired and worked with Russian officials to come up the infamous and salacious dossier.

Keep in mind the Clinton campaign and DNC officials have denied paying for the dossier for nearly a year, but were forced into an admission after a subpoena from House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes revealed both entities had in fact employed Fusion GPS to create the dossier.

Comey's book, A Higher Loyalty, comes out next week.

He didn’t tell the FISA court either. I wonder if he’s still planning on teaching that ethics class at William and Mary?

Washed-out Mueller CANT SEEM TO FIND what is really out there. He’s like a one-eyed prospector who knows “there’s gold in them thar hills,” but Mueller keeps coming up dry with every cockeyed jab of his pick-axe.

The following investigations would yield paydirt.....(but Mueller knows his handlers, power-stricken Democrats, would scream bloody murder):

(hat tip VDH)

In his search for instances of lying, Mueller might re-examine the false testimonies given to investigators by McCabe and by Clinton aides Cheryl Mills and Huma Abedin.

In his search for Russian collusion, Mueller might also investigate Steele, Glenn Simpson of Fusion GPS and the Clinton campaign. All used Russian sources to leak unproven gossip and smears to the press in an effort to warp the 2016 election.

In his search for obstruction of justice, Mueller might also investigate whether top DOJ and FBI officials deliberately misled the FISA Court before and during after the 2016 election cycle by withholding evidence that the Steele dossier was flawed. Did Justice Department officials inform the FISA Court that Steele’s dossier was hired research paid for by the Clinton campaign? Did they tell the court that the FBI had stopped using Steele as a source for purportedly leaking information to the media? Did they tell the court that Comey was on record as saying the Steele dossier might not have been credible?

In his search for felonious behavior concerning the leaking of classified documents, Mueller might determine:

1) Whether the memos regarding presidential conversations that Comey leaked to the press were classified;

2) Whether former top national security and intelligence officials — among them John Brennan, James Clapper, Samantha Power, Ben Rhodes and Susan Rice — requested that the redacted names of surveilled Americans be unmasked, and whether officials then illegally leaked those names to the media;

3) Whether FBI officials such as Comey and McCabe leaked confidential findings from their investigations to the press during the 2016 campaign and lied to investigators about it.

Heck, why leave all the good stuff for Mueller? Trump does have a DOJ, doesnt he (snicker)?

But Comey is all over the news calling Trump “a mob boss” and answering questions from Democrat hack reporters about Trump obstructing justice. We really do live in the Twilight Zone.

He practices sound bites to sell books.....the guy is as transparent as a bay window.

His first (and last) appearance before Congress was a PR stunt ...... everything he said sounded like a chapter heading.

Basically Comey was trying to blackmail Trump. Interesting also that he did not think the fact that it was paid for by Hillary was important. That explains why he didn’t tell the judge as well.

Agreed...It’s appalling that we have people like Comey (and there are many others like him) in the highest positions of government.

FBI, DOJ, State to name a few and they’re there for their own personal gain rather than the good of the country.

They should be in prison but probably deserve much worse.

In other words, “You will do as I say, or I will leak this info to the media.”

He informed Trump after the election. It was publicized and leaked. Then President Elect Trump was angry and rightly so.

You’re joking, of course. Right?

Given Mueller’s history of running investigations, I hope that’s all sarcasm.

He really needs to just go away. He never should have been appointed in the first place, given the specific working of 28 C.F.R. 600. He’s a disgrace.

I think this is the biggest takeaway from Comey’s book......

why not tell the incoming president that this dossier was compiled by someone we trust....but was paid for by Hillary Clinton and is opposition research

Stepanopolus should have followed up that it was leaked the next day and can’t you see why Trump would be distrustful of the purpose of the meeting
